In this lesson we introduce you to basic string bending & vibrato.
I’d rather listen to a player that can bend notes with great feel WAY more than a player with a lot of speed or “chops”. Chops are great to have but should be thought of as a compliment to great style.
The most famous players in history have unique styles and I guarantee that if you spend time listening to them, you’ll attribute a lot of what you like about them to their bends and vibrato. Even great note choice, or “taste”, can be boring without these style based techniques and embellishments. They bring a great sense of emotion and life to the track!
Some great examples to listen to for string bends and vibratos are:
Skid Row - I Remember You
Guns N' Roses - Sweet Child O' Mine
Pink Floyd - Comfortably Numb
Judas Priest - Living After Midnight
Sure there are some Shreddy McShreddington licks thrown into parts of these solos. But the guts of them are built off of inflection by incorporating vibratos and bends.
