This is my first riff here, just to show that I've been doing more than lurking the forums. It's not the greatest but I hope when I come back to it in a little bit I'll have improved
Dude I am so incredibly proud of you! You got a great concept down of the song! My only concern is that you said you weren't at the level to be able to use your thumb to do the bass notes. While that's OK, essentially what you are doing is counter productive. Because what you are going to end up doing, is working really hard to learn the song with a pick and you are going to get really good with the melody notes and then unfortunately you are going to have to re learn it when you go to do it finger style because it's a completely different approach. I definitely commend you on saying "Fuck it I just wanna learn it and I'm gonna fucken do it anyway" regardless of what you can or can't do. But like I sai, I would hate for you to spend 5 months on it or even 5 hours and get really good only to have to then be ready to take the next step and have to butcher all your hard work and redo it again. Your left hand's position is going to change when you add the bass notes so right now I don't believe you are doing yourself any favors. But this link that I am attaching is my intro tutorial for this song. Syn joined in on the live stream when I taught it and was blown away and completely approved this tutorial. And believe me I take it at a very slow beginners level. I am a classically trained guitarist so if you need any help feel free to reach out to me and great fucking job posting your 1st riff dude! That is really impressive for your 1st riff!
@Jak Angelescu Holy crap I am dumb. Thank you for the honest review. I won't lie it hadn't crossed my mind how much it would change by including the full notes; I just wanted to jump in and play, figuring that when I get to the improving stage it would be adding the notes. But it makes so much more sense that when I actually learn the proper was then the whole thing is going to change. Thanks for the video link, I'll learn it properly and give you a follow up when I can.

I've been working on this myself FOREVER as well and while I definetly agree with Jak that you should probably start the right way (with fingers) to not have to learn it ALL OVER again, I think it's totally fine to simplify it in the beginning, to get some progress out of it. Watch my progress video I made.
See, in my first year of learning it, I took tabs I found but left out everything that seemed impossible to play at the time. And then learn and improve it bit by bit. Having said that, Jaks Tutorial video is a GODSENT GIFT that explains this intro so well.
@Dominik Gräber I really appreciate the response. As Jak has said, learning the right way will be easier in the long run so I've been working on adding in the finger style... Giving it maybe 10-20 minutes a day after each jam, practice or noodle session. So I hope to be able to do another video soon ish to actually show something for it.
That being said I am really glad to have just said fuck it and jump right in because with other hobbies of mine I've always been scared of trying advanced things because I haven't met "the required experience". Then I end up chasing the experience and never get around to doing what I want. Which ultimately leads to burn out.
