Hi all, pretty shy about posting this, with speaking also in a video, never done it before, but I feel good here, so lets go for it :) Im practising on bending, a lesson by papa Gates. Bending and vibrato are pretty difficult to me (to hear if im in right note), but i just keep on practising to get it better. Feedback appreciated
Bending comes from you.. when soloing I find when I come to my bends.. I really dont ever ask myself how far I wanna bend to.. I just bend the note and allow my brain to bend it as far as I want because sometimes you want the whole bend.. or a half. So much to think about.
They sound pretty good though! Eventually it becomes 2nd nature and you wont have to ask yourself "am I bending enough" some people purposely bend wrong to sound more.. unique too. It's all in the style you want.
That was great! Glad you stepped out of your comfort zone! I think you're doing good already. An exercise that I do from time to time is bending a string without plugging it, and then plug it when you think you reached the note that you want to bend to. Then play the actual note some frets higher to check. This is great to get your muscle memory fit!

For sure.. you definitely want to train your ear while you go. So I agree with doms advice. That will help you not only bend where you wanna go.. but bend to the exact note you are thinking as oppose to thinking well if i bend here itll aound good but to where.. youll know exactly what you want.
I’m working on bends as well and I think I’m basically practicing the same as you. If your bends were off I could not tell. They sounded extremely close to me.
when I’m practicing I find if I do a slide up to the note I’m bending to and then do my bend it’s easier to hear it. Kind of like I can hear how it sounds all the way up to where I need to stop. If that makes sense. I’m not sure how to articulate that well. I think maybe @Jak Angelescu or @Ids Schiere could explain that better if they know what I’m saying lol. I suck at terminology.
You're doing pretty good so far! I'll just post the same thing I told Alicia below The best exercise for bending is probably playing a note(any note) and go a fret(s) below it and vend up to that note. Start with one fret and continue with 2, 3 etc. When you get it down. Half step bends(1 fret up) are the easiest to do in the beginning since they require the least finger strength.
Bending is kind of a combination of your ear and muscle memory, You use your ear to hear whether you hit the right note and muscle memory so you know how much force you need to apply to get the bend your looking for and not overbend
i also made a little lesson on bending a year or so

You explained it well, i understand what you mean. PG does this also in the video, i sometimes do it like that too.
Nice that you are practising the same thing atm Good luck!

Bending strings is one of my weaknesses too. I can pretty much reach the right note when I do exercises but when I'm trying a solo it's way more difficult for me..but I keep on trying
Great job! Keep it up!
