Its more comfortable for me to play at an angle but the notes sound more powerful when played flat. So whenever I need to play something that doesnt need a lot of speed I pick flat on the string.

Angle is faster but with less volume. If you need to play fast pick with angle otherwise pick it flat, there's nothing wrong with adjusting your playstyle.
