Try resting your pinky on the guitar and then have the rest of your hand floating. I use the tip of my pinky finger. If not then watch a bunch of youtube videos of your favourite artists doing it and see their nuance maybe? Good luck!

I rest my pinky on my guitar too but if you're not doing that already I suggest you not to do it. It minimises your range of motion and could cause cramps.
Try basic fingerpicking patterns and slow them down instead, be patient.

Your teacher is right, resting your hand on the bridge works for metal and rock but when you finger pick it gives an unnecessary strain in my forearm so I have it floating. It's is kind of a pain to get used to but it's totally worth it, as for resting your pinky on the body, I tried it and it slows me down and makes playing incredibly uncomfortable for me so I would advice against it. Have you been going through the finger picking lessons here on the school?
