    Pick Choice?

I'm still a huge fan of the Andy James version of the dunlop flow. I definitely understand the appeal of the big stubbies, I mostly practiced with the 2mm ones for iirc a couple of months.

Regular scales or three notes per string?

The part of the song I'm referencing is the end of Jim Root's solo. It is a crazy fast run up & down the scale, 3nps.

Regular scales or three notes per string?

My opinion: it's just notes. I don't see how anyone could think exclusively in one or the other. It's easy to find obvious cases of both being used in the music I like. The thing about music is Technique, Theory, and actual Music are all an inseparable blob. It's basically impossible to look at...

What are you currently listening to?

This is the best new song I've heard in probably a couple of years.

    Practice routine tips?

I always recommend leaning hard into the good things that you like to actually do. If there's a technique that you like to practice, do it. If there's a technique that you don't like to practice, maybe fuck it. I go through phases where I gain or lose interest in different things such as...

What are you currently listening to?

Something very different. It won't be to everyone's taste, and that's fine. Also some metal because that's what most of us are here for.

What kind of action do you prefer?

I don't like super-low action because it makes proper string muting a more delicate task without making anything much easier for me. I don't care for too-high strings either, although there are some amazing guitarists who like it. A normal setup works for me.

Looking for a good practice amp that lets me sound like syn

No cheap amp will get you really close to Syn's tone, for several reasons. One of the big reasons is that if you're listening to an album your brain may wrongly get an idea of "Syn's Tone" from the combined sounds of multiple guitar tracks from two guitarists plus the bass plus the kick drum...

What are you currently listening to?

Something a bit different this time. Tbh I don't really listen to metal much anymore after many years of having a nearly "Death to all but Metal" mindset. By the way "Death to all but Metal" is legitimately a great song. The lols-worthy lyrics are even more amusing with the knowledge that...

What are you currently listening to?

I guess a lot of people are into this song now.

    Fretting hand

As your fingertips get calloused that will help a lot. Even if you don't notice that your skin is toughening up, and it can be something that's not obvious, playing guitar will just get easier and better. As a side note playing guitar got me in the habit of owning a lot of nail clippers so I...

    Practice Help

For me personally the #1 most important thing is to not repeat mistakes and always be willing to slow down enough to focus on any needed details. I get the best results when I focus on improving how I play something well below how fast I can actually play. Trying to race against a metronome...

What inspires/motivates you to practice in general?

I've reached the point where I've stopped trying to be awesome and instead focus only on enjoying where I'm at. Ironically I feel like I started learning way faster when I stopped having giant ambitions. I certainly have more fun. However, for some of you here the destiny which awaits you is...

Help!!!!! One string has hella buzz !! 😭

So, how's it going? I know from personal experience that it can be big stress to have difficulty with a new guitar, or any guitar, so I hope you've had some good luck with this.

    Stiff fingers solution?

I love to recommend that people massage their forearms front and back before playing, because that's where your "finger muscles" actually are (mostly).

Help!!!!! One string has hella buzz !! 😭

Out of curiosity, how much space is there between the string and the frets? How much space is there between the string and the pickups? I might lol a little if you lowered the bridge and unintentionally brought the string in contact with one of the pickups or plastic pickup rings.

What are you doing while being stuck at home?

If I get quarantined I'll do a lot of cleaning and organizing.

    String gauge

I do a mad scientist thing for standard tuning. 46, 34, 24, 15, 11.5, 8 Probably not many other people would like it, but I'll never go back to standard strings.

    Guitar injuries

A couple little things for me, hmmm. I can't spend a lot of time doing a strong pinching motion or I get pain. How I avoid this is I hold a pick correctly instead of wrongly. I also try to keep every part of my hand that isn't grabbing a pick very relaxed because there was one day I suddenly got...

My practice/ warm up routine. Part 1!

The second stretch in the video is the kind of thing I do all the time at work to keep my hands healthy. It's not merely useful for me, it's necessary.
