My pinky is really out of shape
Check out Syn’s Etudes Sweep Picking One and Legato 1, they will be a real workout and your forearm may be sore, don’t push it and injure yourself! I thought I had pretty decent pinky strength and they whipped my ass into shape real fast!- Jackson Harsin

I agree with all of the above, while music theory is interesting and gives a player a ton of shortcuts to the notes they may want to play at a given time, music can be an extremely instinctive thing and nobody has ever said that music theory is required. Need help with basic pick use
The lesson on the site is pretty fantastic for basics of how to hold a pick, i.e. by letting it rest on the side of the pointer finger and secured by the thumb.
