    Something sounds really off. I think it's a combination of your riff not starting on the correct beat and the hi hat playing on-beat (like a metronome). The riff starts with that with that "twirly"sound but the actual beginning of the first beat of the riff is when you play those last two notes...

    Just because it's an artificial sound doesn't mean that there are no unwanted frequencies. Most of the time they will always be present and will need to be removed. Also the effects like delay, reverb etc... that are built in the synth can often sound pretty shitty and you'd want to replace them...

    well the opening riff is pretty isloated by itself and each chord that is picked has the same amount of notes i believe so it shouldn't be that hard to figure out which notes are being played. You can easily solve this by looking at some tabs and you'll figure it out. EQ-ing won't really help...
