Captain Ed's AOTM February 2022: Pink Floyd - The Wall

Had a good friend in high-school who is a major Pink Floyd fan and then another beer, I mean, college mate who is also a fan. My parents and sister also listened to Pink Floyd a lot. Safe to say all of this got me hooked to the band. Not as a regular playlist one, but anytime I want to unwind or...

They say the answer to everything in life is 42. But when it comes to mixing vocals, the answer is actually 240. You put an EQ there and slice the shit out of 240 and your day will become instantly better. Especially when you're a baritone...ESPECIALLY when you are a baritone  (apparently...

Spotlight Student: Christian Schulze AKA CJ

Well deserved. I've only been back here for like a month and I can tell the man CJ still brings the good vibes around :D .

What's a simple way to remember the caged scale and chord combinations?

That's...actually a pretty cool idea. I remember tripping and falling in that solution when I was back in high-school but sorta forgot about it until you mentioned it .

What's a simple way to remember the caged scale and chord combinations?

What is an easy way to remember them you ask? Practice, I answer  . Seriously, you can't get around this. I tried for about a year. I finally understood you can't, now just gotta work on motivating myself to actually practice :)).

Intermediate What's your approach to learning new chords?

I just learn the formula and what notes comprise the chords. Like, for major 7th chords, it's 1-3-5-7, where those numbers represent the notes from the major scale. SO CMaj7 would be C-E-G-B. Then I try and play it in different ways on the guitar. Shapes are cool and all, until I forget them...

How to go about organizing media?

I thrive on having my stuff organized. Sometimes I overdo it a bit but given how you have described everything you may need to start with some baby steps: - figure out what files serve what purpose by giving them a name - figure out certain categories for those files and create folders based on...

    Delay settings

Well, generally speaking, a delay is highly dependent on your BPM, for delay time anyway. So depending on your tempo, you'd have to calculate 60000/your BPM to get the exact delay time settings. As for delay feedback, that's honestly up to taste. I just leave the feedback so that I get like...

    BeginnerQuestion

I mean it's a legit way of learning stuff. When I started playing the piano at 4 years old, I had a brief introduction to the notes, then started playing some songs and learning more stuff along the way.

SynTV - The Tone Zone - Learning your gear and creating a tone you love

Really good one, especially for someone who has finally started understanding how to get good tones or at least tones that I like. I'm a single coil simp when it comes to clean tones, I feel humbucker ones sound way too...I don't even know how to describe it, at least on my humbuckers, but they...

    Guitar String Gauge

Huh, love how this question sorta answers one I had. I want to put some light/heavy strings (10-52) on my guitar si I could play Drop D and Drop C more easily and I was worried it might affect the neck. Drop D might work on my 9-42 or 9-46 ones but you do NOT want to go lower than that on such...

I am struggling with knowing how my song would be perceived. Can anyone offer reassurance about this song?

I mean don't get me wrong, the song itself is alright and sounds good for the ear overall. Having been knee-deep in mixing this last year I have started to hear stuff like this easier. What I mentioned is not song breaking or anything, just sone small stuff that, should the mixing person have...
