    This has been bothering me

I've seen Barry twice. The first time was not because of Barry. (I knew somebody in the band). Ended up being one of the BEST shows I have ever witnessed. The 2nd time was his Christmas show in 2019. Took my wife who is a big fan. Still amazing. His songs are memorable and he has a million hits...

    This has been bothering me

There are many popular bands I don't care for. It doesn't mean they suck - it just means they don't do anything for ME. Music is subjective. And thank God it is. If everyone liked the same music, there would be one band. And with my luck it would be Journey. (Was that my outside voice?) I try...

    THANK YOU PAPA GATES!

If it had been anyone else I would be in jail. But it's bad luck to kill a gnome.

    Webinar with Syn & PG

Thank you to all who participated in the webinar. It was so much fun! Great to put names to new faces and also see some old friends. I was disappointed that we didn't get to all your questions - even going almost an hour late. We could have given shorter answers and hit up everyone - but that's...

    THANK YOU PAPA GATES!

You guys are silly. Let's not waste time trying to rate me against other Papa's. Let's just agree that I'm fucking awesome and leave it at that. Your humble servant, pg

THE ROYAL SCAM by Steely Dan

Honest mistake. They had two amazing guitarists in the band; Denny Dias and Jeff "Skunk" Baxter (as well as Walter Becker). Then on every album - they brought in a ton of studio guys; Larry Carlton, Rick Derringer, Dean Parks, Elliott Randall, Lee Ritenour, and a handful of other guys. They were...

THE ROYAL SCAM by Steely Dan

The solo in Reeling In The Years was played by Elliott Randall. Total monster.

THE ROYAL SCAM by Steely Dan

Hahaha! Completely forgot this story. If memory serves me I broke the B string. But it may have been the G string. Either way, I was screwed. It's SOOOO much easier to break a high E string. But with a G or B you have to skip a string and jump over to the next one, it's a nightmare. There is no...

    Subtitled lessons

This is a wonderful idea! Sometimes simple things are hard to add - due to restrictions on the platform we're using - as well as cost. Conversely, sometimes ideas that seem difficult end up being easy to add. We should definitely run it by Mike & our team.

    Hallo ihr Lieben!

Welcome! What a coincidence! Matt's hair is the reason I like the band, too!

I couldn't stop laughing at this

2 sharps = Key of D major. Relative minor? B. Ding Ding Ding. We have a winner!

    Color Chords - Lesson 9

Yeah - Am6 = F#m7b5, Dm6 = Bm7b5 and then you can go with a full dim over the V (Fdim over the E7) or a Bm7b5 will also work over the E7. Cool stuff!

    Color Chords - Lesson 9

Yes! Which is much more common in jazz & jazz blues. Especially going to the IV chord. In the key of A, you would play an Eb7-5 (or an Eb9-5) before going to the D9. Of course you can also use it leading into the V chord (F9-5 to an E9).

    Color Chords - Lesson 9

Yeah - I'm familiar with all of them. Rick always has a great way to explain complicated concepts. Such a great teacher. These are mostly used in classical music. But the concept is the same. They are a pre-dom7 chord. So anytime you have a dom7, you can use one of these before it as a color...

    Color Chords - Lesson 9

You lost me at German +6 chord. lol. But yes - a color chord can be a dom7.

    Posting on social media platforms

It's hit and miss, depending on the platform. Youtube, Insta and Facebook have become the worst. Vimeo is somewhat better. Off topic, here is how the music business works. A song is recorded and published. Unless something special is negotiated, the writer owns 100% of the writer's royalties...

    2 octave scale tab

Now that I think about it, Syn wanted the scales to be 3 notes per string. So it actually goes 2 octaves & a 4th. So all the way to a C on the 8th fret, high E string (G Major scale).

    2 octave scale tab

All the scales I cover in the lessons are 2 octave. Actually more. 2 octaves and a third. G major scale would be G (3rd fret low E string) to B (7th fret on the high E string).

Drum Samples on City of Evil?

As I recall, Andy Wallace layered several different snares over the Rev's original snare on COE. How much of the original snare sound that is actually heard depends on the song. Rev always had a great snare sound that changed with each song. It always fit the vibe. My guess is you can still hear...
