    Have you tried to mute the strings with your right hand? (When you are right-handed) I use my right hand to mute the bass strings and with the other hand I play the notes. With your left forefinger you can mute the higher strings.

    I would call them arpeggios. I mean you play a chord. But you don't play the notes of that chord at once. You play them one after another. And I think this is called an arpeggio.
