I will reiterate what has been said (and add my own opinion). Noise Gate will kill sustain. Most digital amps have that built into the settings. Getting the right setting is a constant battle between noise and sustain. Compression adds sustain, but a lot of that happens naturally with gain...- Brian Haner Sr.

Intermediate Practicing the modes of C major scale
Fun exercise, but it completely misses the point of modes. This is just a C scale starting on the 1st note , then the 2nd, then the 3rd, etc. It all just sounds like he's playing in C major. Calling this "modes" is misleading. If you are jamming in D Dorian - say Dm to G7, it sounds like...- Brian Haner Sr.

Problems with an old Squier!!
If the guitar works for teacher and you've switched out cables, I can only assume it's your amp. Probably the input jack. But could be something more serious. Start with the jack. -
