Some Thoughts I'd Like To Share

Sad to hear this - but not surprised. I can't imagine what's being said about me on IG - given my job (for the past 2 years) as a political comedian. lol. But I NEVER bring that here. That's not what this school is about. As you so eloquently pointed out, Jak - EVERYONE is welcome here...

    What are you working on?

I hate to admit it, but I literally haven't touched a guitar in 6 months. We moved this last year and I am doing a lot of work on the new house. I do try to make time everyday to play piano. I am working on stride hand - which is kind of old school jazz or ragtime. I'm enjoying it very much and...

How do I turn scales into solos?

Hey Kat! The best solos are melodies - not scales. Playing scales just sounds like you're practicing. You can skip notes, skip stings, and even play notes that are not in the scale, IF they sound good to your ear. The best way to create a melodic solo is to practice playing existing melodies...

About Overview of The Major Chord – Lesson 8

Hi Ace! Here is the simplest way to hear it (without having to know ANY THEORY - Play an E chord (which I'm sure you know). Now - keep your 2nd & 3rd fingers where they are (on the 2nd frets of the 4th & 5th strings) but lift your index finger off the first fret of the G string (giving you an...

my rhythm sucks what can i do

A metronome is the best thing for your time. Play whatever you want; rhythm or lead - and play it to a metronome. Mix up the times. If the song you're playing is 90bpm. Play it at 80. Play it at 85. Play it at 95. Mix it up. Also - advanced tip - best thing for time AND groove is playing the...

    Is this cheating?

Ear training is great! It's a muscle - and you have to exercise it. The more you do it, the better you get. But when you have taken it as far as you can and it still isn't perfect - it's ALWAYS OK to double-check. That's exactly how you get better. Check the tabs and see what you're missing...

A CHRISTMAS GIFT TO YOU from Phil Spector

The only argument for a better Christmas album might be an older album - like Bing Crosby or something like that. This is certainly (IMO) the best pop Christmas album ever made. It's Spector at his best. Every song has the famous "wall of sound" which was a combination of compression, echo and...

Is it real or just a fake red and black syn custom guitar?

Thank makes perfect sense. I just needed some corroboration. Those came with two SD pickups if I remember correctly. So it was an aftermarket install and they went with a sustainer. Mystery solved!

Is it real or just a fake red and black syn custom guitar?

It looks real enough - but the neck pickup is clearly not a "Sustaniac". It's a "Fernades Sustainer". Possible it was an aftermarket install. But it's enough to make it a little fishy to me.

What are you currently listening to?

AWESOME!!! Love it! I really like how the pop is mixed with Yugoslavian folk music - as well as regional instruments. Super catchy and fun. Strong melody and chord changes. And then it ends with some good old fashioned guitar harmony. Never heard Balkin classic rock before. I'm a fan. Thanks...

    ABBEY ROAD by The Beatles

Oh my! Where do we begin? I recorded a couple of my albums at Abbey Road and got to use The Beatle mics & keyboards so I have a deep affection for the place AND the album. Side One: Fav song is so tough. Probably "Oh! Darling". Paul's vocal is as beautiful and rough as it can be- all in the...
