What did you listen to ten years ago?

Damn, this brings back memories. In the early 2010s I was listening to a lot of Rise Against. They were my go-to band for anything . I also listened to a lot of Story of the Year. Green Day was on my playlist as well back then, along with a bunch of 90s, 80s and 70s songs. Also, I listened...

One of the best feelings in the world

I wish I had a Rosa Diaz like line for this (Brooklyn 99 is doing a number on me these days), but I don't . Thank you for the support and appreciation :D.

    Feeling limited

One thing I always found hindered my progress was when I was taking on too much stuff at the same time. You know the old adage corporate intellectuals use on LinkedIN: learn to say no? Well, it's true. What you need to do is take a step back and figure out exactly what you want to get better at...

    Pretty much like that .

Pretty sure that can be accomplished if he hears how I am currently butchering the last part of So Far Away on vocals .

TIL that the first mix I had for my first instrumental song was an atrocity that should never ever EVER see the light of day again (source: I listened to it after a few days break and it sucked). Mixing is hard...it's not taking a toll on me, at bloody all .

One of the best feelings in the world

You know, I didn't really know what to expect when posting those covers on streaming services. I just received this a few days ago and it feels good. If anyone around here is among those 1210 listeners, I salute you :D. If you are not and don't know what I am talking about, give it a listen here.

    General guidelines for mixing

So I took both of your suggestions into account and I got the job done. I will probably look at the whole kick/bass thing, though not having separate tracks for each drum makes this a bit weird.

    What Ed Said

This guy helped me turn my guitar sound from scratchy ball of incoherent fuzzy noises to legitimate, stream worthy sound with a simple suggestion. I tend to want to listen to what he says  . Especially in regards to anything gear related.

Take a break, have a meme

Go ahead and bend that string. I dare you .

    General guidelines for mixing

Now that you mention it, I remember seeing the bell curve thing demonstrated somewhere. Just gotta figure out how to do that in Reaper.

    General guidelines for mixing

Ozone is a godsend when it comes to mastering. PG knows what he's talking about. I'll try the 5k-8k thing, since I like my highs in my sound, it could be the answer. I know about the pan thing, though I do like my bass and drums to be exactly in the center. Guitars though, I have the rhythm on...

    General guidelines for mixing

Hey guys and girls. So I just got done recording my first instrumental song. And now I am looking for some general mixing guidelines. I know about EQ-ing and shit and I know of some frequencies that need to be cancelled in order for the whole song to sound good. My questions though are the...

My songwriting methods are weirdly funny

Yeah, it's really cool how you are able to improve your song structure with enough exercise. I've been down the rabbit hole of not writing songs that fit to a scale. Sometimes it worked, sometimes no. That's when I started studying songwriting and actually applying all the music theory I had...

My songwriting methods are weirdly funny

@Calvin Phillips yeah, I know I do . I am confident it will get better in time though. As for Jimmy Page and the like, I prefer to stay sober while doing stuff most of the time. Though some good ideas have sprung to mind when I was in college and I went out with friends for a few beers.

Intermediate CHORDS THEORY - Lesson 14 - Minor 7th flat five chords

The idea is that these chords also go by the name of half-diminished chords. It's just easier to look at them from the perspective of a 7th chord.
