    Struggling to learn songs, help?

Ids, I have a question about your improv tip: if I were to have a small chord progression on repeat (C, G, Em), do I/is it advisable to follow either the root note (C) or scales of each chord as they approach OR could I just come up with something that sounds like it fits? This is something I’ve...

Selling your guitar to a store?

Of course. They’d just look at the Blue Book of Guitar Values to determine how much they’d give you for it.

Feature Requests for Synyster Gates School?

Got to add another. Tips on writing and creating riffs and melodies. I remember back like 10 years ago (don’t know how true this is) but a buddy of mine had made noise that Syn would draw inspiration from pop music. I’d like to know how to do this.

which schecter guitar should I get

I posted on another ‘Schecter’ forum that I have the 2016 version of the Omen Extreme 6. Had the one with the Floyd Rose but broke 3 high E strings just trying to tune it so I traded it for the one without at Guitar Center (was still within the 45 days). The price tag on the one I have is/was...

Feature Requests for Synyster Gates School?

Lesson-wise: more on theory, how to play/write in the style of (for me that would be Tremonti), finger-picking, practice tips Feature-wise: someone else said to have sub-categories of the forums

    Pentatonic and soloing

I guess for some reason I’ve always thought that (thinking can hurt, right?) whatever the key the song is in is that key’s pentatonic scale that guitarists would use for solos. But in Lessons 29 through 32 I’m seeing him play both the D and C pentatonic scales in the same song example. If I’m...

Post stuff you want to learn

Learn to play in the style of (insert artist). For me it would be like a mixture of Tremonti, Hetfield, and Vai.

    First song

Don’t remember the first song I learned but one of the more recent ones was Alter Bridge – Blackbird. All parts minus Mark’s solo took about a week/week and a half just to get the rhythm down.

    Is CAGED really that bad?

After re-watching 8, something clicked. It’s not that EXACT tone that makes up the chord, but that note (Amaj is made of the A note (1) C# (3) and E (5)), correct?

    Is CAGED really that bad?

And that’s what I’m doing; re-watching the lessons I don’t understand to try to understand them. For instance, Lessons 7 and 8 he talks about the Major scale and Major chord respectively. He talks about how the Cmaj chord is constructed from the Cmaj scale following the 1-3-5 method. And I may...

    Is CAGED really that bad?

I’m on lesson 21 and the theory of the scales and CAGED system is eating away at my brain. I know WHAT the pentatonic scale is and that the CAGED system allows you to play the same chord in different shapes across the fretboard. I just don’t know HOW the pentatonic and major scales are...

What lessons would you like to see added?

Also, granted I’m only on lesson 21 so some may be explained later but, a hell of a lot more on theory, like how all of the chords are connected and constructed, why and how this and that, etc. Before I dropped “playing” (fiddling around on it), I wasn’t aware of theory. Now, while it is still...

    Top 5 favourite guitarists

Let me modify that. Favorites in terms of listening (can’t list just 5): Tremonti Syn Hetfield Loomis Laiho Wylde Heafy and Beaulieu Devin Townsend Favorites in terms of listening and the style I’m wanting to “specialize in” so to speak: Tremonti (in both lists due to the reason in my previous...

What are you currently listening to?

An underground instrumental artist named Grocki. Has a YouTube channel with 2 original songs and several covers and a 6 song album. He did everything from guitars to drums to mixing and all.

What lessons would you like to see added?

Mainly to do with practicing but techniques, exercises to help with dexterity, speed and accuracy, etc. and how to include the metronome. Even reading and watching other articles and videos, that’s one thing that I still can’t get.

    Nails and bends

The issue(s) I’m having is when I do bend, (1) I guess the strings that are not my focus somehow get plucked and ring out when releasing the bend and (2) when trying other ways, such as putting the same non-focused strings at the very tip of the fingernail, the string that I am bending tends to...
