    Goals for the year:

    1. Improve on guitar: I struggle with strumming and playing notes at the same time, and I want to improve that.
    2. Learn to play a basic song: I've chosen Doe, a Deer from the Sound of Music
    3. Figure how to pretzel my fingers and play cords while making my guitar not sound like a half-muted dying animal...this is a challenge, lol!
    4. Buy an electric guitar and amp (pipe dream)

Overall, if I can strum with my right hand and play notes on the fretboard with my left hand at the same time and sound like something, I'll be happy. And I'll keep posting videos for critique in the Beginner's Corner =)

Hey! Glad you decided to post your first thread!
Would love to hear your take on Buried Alive! Took me years to more or less master the intro!
Metallica is always a good choice too!

I’ve never made a list of “music year goals” before, but I guess it would motivate me a lot, so here’s mine:

    - study music theory, basically for the first time
    - practice on techniques (especially alternate picking and sweep picking)
    - improve my improvisation
    - learn at least two more songs by A7X completely (with solos) and master Nightmare solo

But above all, probably the hardest goal to achieve, I want to get more comfortable when playing to/with others and stop thinking they will judge me if I don’t play something perfectly

Yeah, I also suffer from anxiety and I know exactly what you're saying. If you wanna talk or vent, anytime, feel free to hit me up!

My anxiety deals with socialism and self awareness. I create scenarios in my head that do not exist essentially. Usually they stray from past situations. This makes me very afraid to meet new people in the real world. I will not even say hi.. maybe a wave?

Slap that on top of the everything else and you got yourself in a very complex situation.

I used to have a couple good friends that was exempt from.all that. But they are gone now. It'd tough meeting new people you can trust. Keep short talk with. Just asking how the days going. I barely have any of that anymore. The last 2 years haven't been easy because of that.

Not trying to bring the place down but it is something that I feel needs work this year for me. I could write and improve. But if theres no one around to show the progress to and talk and be proud of your accomplishments (whether they are good or not) it's hard to remain motivated.

    Nice thread, @Batbia!

So, I'm completely new in this guitar world, so, my goals for this year are:
-Buying my first guitar (done that, waiting for it to arrive )
    -Buying an amp
-Studying a lot of music theory, until it's well sedimented in my head
    -Having a practice routine everyday
-By the end of the year, being able to play at least one song front to back

    And that's it!

We are a community based on music, but we are also here to show support at any matter! So, you're not bringing the place down. We are here for you.

Real life friends are important, I know, but you can have this encouragement and motivation here too! Show us your practice, show us your improvement! A lot of people here can give you feedbacks that will help you improve and words of encouragement, and be proud of you. It's a hate-free environment.

Getting to know the electric guitar in general is the only musical goal I have as of now for 2021. Through these four years I was able to get to know my acoustic as I was this crazy maniac who played for nine hours every Friday (any other day I'd play for 45 minutes) just so I could learn new things from the awesome teacher I used to have. I'm really grateful that he taught me all these things and really helped me learn so much, however one can never stop learning.
Dimebag, Syn, Gary Holt and a bunch of others almost made me fear the beast that the electric guitar is, however I do believe that with time I will be one step closer to taming it.
I have a lot of other goals for this year, such as passing all of my exams, getting my motorcycle licence before June, crushing down and most likely ending my weight-loss journey so I can bulk up properly. Hard work is all it takes and am I working.
I hope y'all reach your goals and really test your limit this year, guys!

There's lots of material I provide for school and outside school. Trying to go live on twitch once a week or 2. Instagram videos of covers im not posting here purposely (be too much content lol).

I have 2 albums worth of music also on my reverbnation account that I've been going over in my status updates. And more to come. I'll always be supplying material.

Congrats on your first thread! And also what a cool thread idea!
Over the years I've learned that when it comes to goals it is best to keep the list short so it is attainable.

My main goal this year is to finish and release music.
As far as my guitar goals, I want to have a setlist of songs ready to play anytime. Dassit!!!
