Hey everyone! This is just one of my “Making Of” posts that I kind of wanted to share with you all.
We got the final drums back for the scratch tracks and HOLY SHIT. It is coming along far better than I anticipated! I really can’t wait for you guys to hear it! My singer however, just a few weeks ago came to me and said “I don’t want to speak the Italian in the beginning.” I asked her, “Um, well someone’s gotta do it and it ain’t gonna be me because my voice sounds stupid.”
Lo and behold, she tells me, “No. I want a male chamber choir to do it.”
In the beginning of the song, she has decided she wanted Byzantine/Old Roman style chanting. One because she loves that shit, two because it would really fit the context of the song in the beginning.
So here we are, scourging the internet and looking for the Fantastic Four to complete our Baritine-Tenor a capella pairing. Through my hours of searching, I managed to stumble across the AMAZING Te Deum choir that’s located right in our very own backyard. It’s a choir that performs sacred choral repertoire in the most stunning of ways. So after listening to several of their performances, Holly immediately said “Write them. I want those guys. See if they’ll do it.” So I got a hold of their conductor and offered either compensation to the chosen four singers or a generous donation to the choir.
He was not only willing to talk to the males, he was ECSTATIC. Now here’s the big thing. He wrote me back and said, “May I see the arrangements?”
Now I know how to read sheet music. And from my musical school work I KIND OF know how things are arranged. But not on something like writing out CHORAL arrangements. We’ve already started working on the note movements, the rhythms of the lyrics, and more. But to actually write it down to score sheet and give it to someone with that much experience? Holly’s been doing extensive studying on how these things are actually written, but it’s an intimidating task and I’m scared as all hell he’s going to see our dinky arrangement and laugh.
Does anyone know of any type of software where I could actually key in the arrangement and make it look professional? I don’t think he’s going to accept hand-written work on notebook paper.
Thank you all SO very much! Hope you all have a fantastic weekend!
