Greatest hits is nice, but if youw ere a fresh listener, I suggest deciding against the older or newer stuff. A LOT of fans hate the newer stuff due to the new singer. But if you are one who can look past that, their whole discography is worth taking a peak at. I also have listened to Alice in chains longer then A7X.. not by a lot, maybe a few months. But Jerry Cantrell is a great example of how you can be good at guitar without really any complicated shreds on his albums. I dont really think he has anything TOO difficult, but it all sounds amazing. Just an example of how you dont HAVE to be fast to be good. His wah effects are also out of this world.

Think I picked a song from every album with Layne.

^ new singer William. I love both versions personally. These are some of my favourites from each album. Tried to pick some that you might like as they are heavier but not all their songs are heavy.

I have been listening to Alice in Chains since the beginning, and I love both versions. Layne Staley was great obviously, but William is very good also, and I think the character of the band has stayed the same. Jerry Cantrell is awesome!
