So, as I’ve said before, I’ve been playing a long time. I took a bunch of years off, however, cutting my hair, growing a family (and a belly), and well, it happens, right? But I came across this old video my drummer sent me of an extended improvised guitar solo in a live set from December of 1994. I’m the guy on the right with the, ahem, pink wife-beater shirt and the same black Ibanez RG550 I still have and play today (minus the goofy stickers and shit). Here it is, for your viewing “pleasure,” warts and all.
If you do watch it, notice that whiles there’s an abundance of delay (something I didn’t usually use) there’s no real sense of structure, restraint, melody…. Ah, well. Baby pictures, kids. Watch out for ’em.

This is crazy. I was born in 1994.
@andrew you have really improved a lot since then.
I wish I had recorded myself in my early guitar playing days. I only have videos from that time where some of my friends play guitar.

Yeah, 1994. I was 24, which is how old you are now, Andrew. Funny how time goes. The last gig I played was in April 1997, and I’m on the cusp of playing out again – our bass player is younger than the rest of us, he was not born yet when I played my last gig. Looking forward to playing out in May or June – if we get video, I’ll post that too.
And Andrew? Yeah, I’d trade the abs for chops, too. Good choice!

This is one of our original songs from the same band, from a 1995 demo. Our singer wasn’t fantastic, but whatever. I wrote most of the music on this one, and played all of the lead guitar, except for the solo at 7:00. The solo at 5:35 might be my favorite thing I’ve recorded. I think I also played bass on this track.
