Okay so I’ve been practising the CAGED system using lesson 23 forward, I can play most of the shapes well but I am struggling to find ways to mute the open 6th string on some chord shapes like the C. Any tips?
I’ve actually found a comfortable way to get my thumb over the top and the barred frets still ring out, next challenge is practising changing between barre chords with the thumb over top now. Thanks for the help guys.
What Filip said. The proper way to mute the low E when playing a chord that doesn’t use it is to lightly touch the side of the string with the finger fretting the 5th string. If the 5th string is an open note in the chord (such as an A major in open position), you can wrap the thumb, as others have said, or muffle it with the palm of the picking hand, like palm muting.
