Well, first and foremost, they’re tech, and tech always gets cheaper over time, but usually because the replacement product stays at the same relative price for “new” and the value of something with fewer and fewer comparitive features is just LOWER. So, yes, it will get cheaper.
I don’t think a 2 will ever be CHEAP, though. You’re not likely to ever find a working model for only a couple hundred, for instance.

@cameron, it’s a download of *.syx files, which you import using the Cab Manager functionality within Axe-Exit on a PC. From there, you can use them with the Cab block on any preset.
I will be doing a follow-up shortly to my livestream from a couple weeks ago. I will be answering some questions I missed and A/B/C/D’ing 4 cabs with my main tone, including two Syn cabs.

I actually just bought an axe fx ii, how well does it work if I’m just using my guitar cabinet through the fx loop of my Amp? I have a Peavey 6505+ with the matching cab. Will it still work with the cab or am I better off just buying new speakers? If so which speaker would you recommend?

So, what you can do is put an FX SEND before the cab block in all of your presets. Then cable the FX SEND on the AxeFX to the FX RETURN on your 6505.
Then, you can add the CAB you like to the presets, tweak global EQ for output 1 to taste, and connect via USB to a computer for THAT sound there. Match them up as best you can.
If you get an FRFR (Full range flat response) system (power amp and speaker), you can hook those up for pumping full AxeFX tone (including cab modeling) out to that. I bought an all in one powered PA speaker (JBL Eon 612) and it’s pretty good. Fractal forums have many recommendations, and I’ve heard good things about the new HeadRush powered speaker, too.
There’s a lot of tweaking you can and should do, but that will get you started.
