Hey everyone, i want to start of by saying this is just something that i wanted to discuss and nothing else
Ever since I was a young guitar player technique has been something that I have always wanted to learn and I have been playing metal rhythm for a long time but there is one genre that I can’t stop playing and sometimes it gets a bit old but I love it to death.
    The blues.
Now I know how you will respond “ a lot of players get inspiration from the blues” and that is 100% true. Whats strange is that I played for many years without knowing that I was actually deriving lots of my lead techniques and feel from the delta blues (my favourite type).
To cut a long story short I have wamted to be an amazing shredder for years but the blues is always where I find myself.
I would be interested in knowing if anyone else has something similar and what genre or artist resonates with them.

OMFG I LOVE THIS POST! The delta blues is such a great style. I’d love to hear you rock it sometime!
For me it’s classical music. I just find so much serenity in the simplest things with a nylon string. It’s so peaceful and relaxing.

I would say for me there are two which are Blues and gypsy jazz. I somehow always manage to have some of both of those in my solos. It differs for each type solo how much of each I do but even in blues I would put small little arpeggios to create a melody which is very gypsy jazz and in my gypsy jazz playing there will be small little things that I get from the blues that I use.

For me.. I guess it’s a mix. I mean.. I love the blues from my Alice in chains days. Then the jazzy stuff I find in suns work. I also like the country country stuff too. If I had to choose between the 3 in think I’d pick country. It’s the one hurting the most lol. Pop music with banjos these days.

Never thought about it really. I like that topic.
I play and love metal but I also really enjoy acoustic stuff. It’s just that I don’t really play much acoustic. But I agree with Jak, it is just something incredibly relaxing. Some of the “The Last of Us” soundtrack comes to my mind. Lean back and listen. Really calming

I hear ya dude. One of the artists that really inspired me on the blues side is Jeff Healey. That dude bends the shit out of his strings and it sounds beautiful to me. He has a very distinct playing style. He went blind, from cancer I think, and plays sitting down with his guitar on his lap.
I love any style of music where you can really FEEL the song. I was never a huge fan of death metal and screaming, but every once in a while I find a song with a great chorus that’s sung instead of screamed and I really love that.
