So I know many here don't like the typical radio stuff and many also tend to listen to more rock and metal. But I am wondering what "pop"ish artists do you like? With that I mean more radio friendly bands or artists that might also be played on a common station.

For me there are definetly some rock influenced groups that I like a couple of songs of, like older fall out boy or Panic! but this year I really got into some Twenty One Pilot stuff too. Also I after all the hype I gave Billie Eilish a listen and got to say that some of her songs are pretty good - and interesting for sure, especially her videos. Do you have any artists you like that are not what you typically hear?

For me Bruno Mars, Post Malone and Eminem and to less extent Ed Sheeran and Justin Bieber
Totally forgot about them! Bruno Mars and Ed should definetly be on the list. I like Em but would not have considered him to be a radio artist in that sense. At least not here in germany
I hear the name Post Malone a lot these days!

Also I would say John Mayer could be on my list too. He mostly fits the radio friendly part too.

I'm honestly never sure About John Mayer because I consider him more of a guitar player than a pop artist, he does write incredible pop songs, so in That aspect you are correct but I tend to listen to his live versions more and in those versions his guitar playing comes through a little bit more.

He has three live records called As/is, any given Thursday an where the light is and also a live record with the John Mayer trio called try I would recommend all of them because the songwriting/guitar work on all of them is absolutely incredible

I'm gonna put this I a separate reply because this is I credibly important to me(and fundamental to writing a song IMHO)

No one ever is gonna write a better pop song than the Beatles used to do, their songs are harmonically complex(yes they are), smart, melodically brilliant (there's nothing more catchy than a Paul McCartney melody), creative, brilliant than a Beatles song. Now include the solo records George, John and Paul did and you got every bit of pop music you need in the rest of your life.

Also I'm gonna see Paul McCartney live I May next year and I haven't been this excited about a concert in my life

I think the only actual pop band that I listen to is Maroon 5. They are a 100% commercial band but for some reason I like their songs. Then there are bands like Twenty One Pilots. Depeche Mode,Daft Punk, Of Monsters and Men who aren't necessarily pop but they get played often on the radio. Pop singers that I listen to are I think only Lana Del Rey and Joji. I guess Joji falls in the anti-pop category. Also I love Post Malone and Childish Gambino. When I first heard "White Iverson" by Post Malone I kept thinking: "I should hate this but I love it". He's one of the rare new-rap artists that I like because he doesn't do that mumble rap bullshit.

I agree, I just recently watched some of Beyonce's performances and she absolutely nailed her vocals. I wasn't as familiar with her work before, just knew she was very famous, but now I see why. LOL
There's a movie with Beyonce which is absolutely incredible. I think it's called 'showgirls' you should watch it if you don't know that movie

Some modern pop (Because if I get into classics like The Beach Boys, TM&P, etc, we’ll be here all day) artists I dig are Bruno Mars (home boy can SING), G-eazy, Post Malone, Blue Foundation, Jake Bugg, Harry Styles, Gin Wigmore, Lana Del Rey, Leon Bridges, and tons more. Too many to list. There’s just so much good music out there, lots of crap too, but tons of good stuff too!

You got to see him live?? Lucky! That dude is so incredibly talented. I actually found out about him because of an interview with G-Eazy where he said Leon was one of his modern favorites and when I checked out his music I was definitely not disappointed haha
