Is it me or when guitarists pick they let their pinky go and slack. I’ve noticed that people just rest their pinky and I really don’t know why. I don’t know if this will make sense but this is my best explanation

I think especially self taught guitarists use their pinky to anchor a lot.

Self-taught. Use pinky for muting and/or occasionally anchoring.

My pinky does whatever feels best in each situation. Just like my thumb. It’s not always up muting. Sometimes I’ll play the same chord but not reach the thumb.. it allows me to possibly go up the board a little of needed at the time. Always changes a bit. I never really think about it or notice it. Unless I see it.
