Hey guys lately I’ve been frustrated with my speed progression on the main intro lead lick that spans for the first minute, (you know it). Anyways I’ve been working on this riff since December 20th so three months now. I’m using the app called “Amazing Slow Downer” where you can slow down songs and stuff to practice it. I’ve been working my way up and for the first while or so I progressed really fast going from 25 percent speed to about 80 speed playing it accurately with correct technique, I’m using economy picking and I’m even trying incorporate pick slanting into my approach as well but for about six weeks I’ve been stuck in the range of 85-90 percent speed. I just don’t understand why I’ve stopped progressing all of a sudden. I’m playing it accurately and in time and correct technique as far as I’m aware but I just can’t get it any faster. I’ve been playing guitar for a year and three months I should really be able to play this by now. On school nights unfortunately I only get to spend about an hour and a half at most on this riff because I wanna be like Syn so I also work on writing and stuff too, and technique but not too much technique I guess. I practice as much as I can but I feel like I’ve been stuck in a rut for a bit especially with this, if anyone has advice or a similar experience I’d appreciate it. Also does anyone know what Syn did to develop his skills or speed I guess? – Keep Shreddin’

Yeah that’s not a bad idea actually I could try and go like 95 for a minute or so and then slow it down, I think John Petrucci actually talked about something like that in a video I saw but forgot about. And yeah but do you know how and like what he practiced to get to his level? Thanks for the advice again! You’ve helped me a lot man !

Not to put myself on a soap box but, I’m going to put myself on a soap box. The HTTK intro was what got me all the recognition I have now. But it’s not because of how “perfectly” i played it. It was my 2 year long journey that I spoke about and all the bullshit I went through to get that song playable. I developed exercises and always shared tips on it. So I’m going to tell you this right now…
Upload a video of you playing it. I’ll be able to spot things that may be hindering your ability to improve.

Hey Jak I’ve been trying to upload it and I don’t why but whenever I try to verify my account it won’t let me and my phone freezes and I can’t upload it. I’m actually following your instagram page so I’ll just send it to you on there, thanks again by the way

Thanks that’s pretty good advice man sometimes just jamming helps you forget stuff. I might been practicing it too much but idk. And it turns out I was picking every note which Syn doesn’t even do which made it even harder XD
