Help on melodies, music theory and jazz

I don't know any easy way of coming up with melodies. I almost exclusivelylisten to music with really great melodies and I put inspiration from that. When it comes to coming up with my own it's always just whatever runs through my head basically.

How to end a phrase basically works like this : find the notes that work over the chord you're want to end your phrase on. All of those notes will work. When to end really comes down to taste.

For Jazz, make sure that you're literate in basic music theory(how to build a chord, modes, harmony and stuff like that) when you are go look at substitution(these follow from chord theory) and which scales/modes work over which chord. A good place to start is Rick Beato's YouTube channel. You can also look at the Rick Beato book if you feel like spending money. There are countless Jazz books around, some with example songs and some not. So it kinda depends on what you're looking for.

Although I don't know sh** about writing melodies I kow what one can do to learn to come closer to that goal. I find it important to create something on your own you first have to copy someone else to learn how it's done.

So learn some Syn Solos with great melodies, do the theory lessons (god knows I should too lol) and then see what makes the melody so great.
Also, I guess a great arsenal and understanding of scales helps. Ha!

like ids said listen to all kind of music with really cool melodies that you like and then practice to jam tracks and try to use that melodies but changing them a little, and then try to create your own melodies with them. jam tracks are really good for that, try to play to them as a daily practice, at the beggining it may suck for a while, but you'll be progressing and creating more complex melodies, and remember its okay to take things from another musicians but adapt them to your own style and try not to sound like this player or that player, i think that's where it gets hard, but with enough practice you will get it. post riffs here of you playing to backing tracks i would love to see how you progress cheers
