Hey $ynyster $tudents!
I’m starting something new for you guys. And this is something that comes natural being a speaker on my team. And little inspirational blogs have been something I’ve done for over a year. So I decided that each week I’ll take a page from my realtor team leader’s book and truly address things for you guys each week.
I’ll cover struggles I’ve noticed, things I think that could be improved on, encouragement and more
I hope you guys enjoy this. It’s for you!

Have you ever had a best friend of 15 years? I have. We decided to move in together last year. Great year it was.
For whatever reason they asked me to move.. I’m not 100% convinced on their reason. But I agreed. Guess they got denied a lease renewal.
So we all had to move. I have been looking 3 to 4 months now before finding one. But they found one right away (of course). Stress out the wazoo.
Just when you think it gets easy when you finally do find a place. You find out they had no permission to drill the holes they did and since you’re the only one left the damage charges come down on you. I could be out 2 to 3 grand. I haven’t had to sell anything yet. But its coming.
I doubt I’ll have to sell a guitar. If it wasnt for those I probably wouldnt have made it through.
The worst part of it all is I sure the friendship is over. Another friend down the drain. They seek to be few and far between these days.
If you feel like things arent going your way. Just know you’re not alone. It’s basically been my entire life. Music is my escape. That’s why I write. It’s my vent. And when you hear the music you just may relate to what I have to say. I listened to my guitar recordings and they sound great. And where I’m moving.. I WILL be able to record vocals. Cant wait. AND my brother may bring his electric drums as well. Good times ahead! Just need to get through the rough patch.

Calvin I’m very happy to hear that you finally found a place. I know that we’ve talked a little bit on Instagram that you’ve been having a lot of stress with this. I can’t wait to see what your new place allows your music to do! Although I am not familiar with tenants rights in Canada, the responsibility of the damage should be on whoever is on the lease. Even if they wrote themselves off from the lease. Whoever signed it to begin with is liable for the damages. And also your damages have a liability limit. Now like I said you are in Canada I could be wrong. But if I were you I would check into tenants rights about property damage. And if anybody drilled holes there’s no way it would cost you thousands of dollars. Even for your currency compared to mine. Several $1000 worth of damage is like a complete obliteration of a unit. Know your rights my friend!

Yeah I’ve been looking it up. I found some drywall filler. They should fill the doors in well. I am gonna see if I can fix it so it looks like it never happened. If i fail then well the charges come. I wont mention too much as this is a public site but I’m looking into the situation to say the least.
But yeah.. I’m hoping my brother gives in with his electric drums. Its single basss but I read a way you can make it a double.
Regardless I may be more vocal in my videos now that I dont have roommates to get in the way.

I think the reason I feel like I must play is because of my destructive work ethic which I am sure I have mentioned before, my best doesn’t exist and never has, there is always something I am working on and I hate stopping while there is something to be done so when I don’t pick it up I tend to feel pretty shit about it.

I agree with you wholeheartedly. I really loved your evaluation on “wanting” and “deciding”. Thank you so much for your shoutout! I appreciate it. Honestly, I feel like that’s kind of what I’ve been doing with my Instagram stories. While I do want it to be a productive day, when I say it’s going to be a productive day, I feel more motivated to get more done.
For someone like me, my little bragging log helps me feel better about myself when I get into one of my more negative sides. With it, I realize I’ve been doing a lot more than I have been giving myself credit for. Like just yesterday I think I practiced 4+ hours and even wrote an original riff that I’m hoping to share sometime very soon once I get it honed to where I’m happy. And now my wrist and fingers feel like they’re falling off. I’ve never sat that long all at once and just played around.
To the person reading this, it’s all about you. Do what makes you happy and makes you feel amazing about yourself. Choose goals for yourself either short term or long, it’s up to you, but don’t set something that will be counterproductive for you. Goals work for some people and not for others. For me, it’s my bragging log and people who are kind enough to comment. (Usually, I’ll take a screenshot of comments that I really like and that make me feel good.) I have long term goals, but I feel my log helps me keep track of what I’m doing each day to get there and I also have shorter goals for each week. This is just what works for me. You do not have to play guitar every day. Sometimes with work schedules it can be hard to. With my log, I also keep track of how much I work because I enjoy working on my job. Even that helps me feel better about myself because I’m keeping track of just all I’m doing and it was still productive.
And if you need to take a break? Do it. Do not burn yourself out and run yourself into the dirt. Only you know when you’re tired, physically or otherwise. I have my days where it’s amazing I just even get out of bed. On those days, that’s when I take out my log and read it so I’m not flogging my own ass and literally beating myself into pulp inside my own head. I used to push myself face first into the dirt literally to where I got tired of playing. Guitar should be fun and a release for you. As Jak was saying, it isn’t a chore and make sure to take care of yourself. Taking care of yourself should always come first. Never feel bad for loving yourself. I’ve had to take a break before. Especially with last year being one of the toughest times of my life. At times, I could just not function and even find the motivation. Trying to play would make me hurt internally. I’m sure everyone needs and will take a break at some point. You’ve come this far, sincere congratulations. You will get to where you want to be. Don’t worry.
