Honestly, songwriting is an art and there are a lot of theoretical ways to go about it(cadences etc.) But in the end the best way to learn how to write a song is by doing it a lot. There is no shortcut!
For me, I just kinda noodle and stumble upon things and build a song around it but it differs for everyone.

Most of my ideas came from jamming the lessons here. You can’t get better until you start writing.a writer will not Improve if they dont try. You have to see what doesnt work before you see what does.
It doesn’t take long either. I’d say a year or two and the connections start becoming natural.

Just start writing songs haha! That may sound almost counter productive but if you know your way around the guitar even just a bit, sit down, listen to some of your favorite bands and get inspired and see what you come up with! Like Ids said song writing is an art in and of itself. And sometimes an idea will just hit you when your off doing something totally different. One of my favorite intro riffs that I’ve ever written came to me a few years ago randomly when I was walking my dog lol. And as you learn more and more and about the guitar and music in general, your songwriting will reflect that

I find in the beginning your songs are different sections and parts of songs arranged into 1. But as you grow and learn your theory the songs start flowing as 1 idea or melody. It gets easier when you can take a note or chord and expand off it rather then a picture in your head.
But of course those pictures in your head get easier to paint as well. But it’s hard to paint the entire picture in your head once you start jamming the song because itll flow in the direction your fingers wanna go rather then your head.

Honestly, start by ripping all those songs off. Try to create a similar vibe those songs you adore have. Do it many times over and you’ll find something of your own in there. That’s the secret of every great band out there. In the beginning Metallica used to rip-off Motorhead and Venom, Pantera used to rip-off Van Halen and Judas Priest, and so on.
It may take a while to get there, but you’ll find your own way of expressing a certain vibe or motif, whether it’s in riffs or just songs in general.
