Well first id say that practice is key. But another factor that is probably the most important is that you have to find the right height for YOU. Yeah Slash looks cool as hell playing his guitar that low but that works for him. and while i understand that playing your guitar very high doesnt look fabulous, all you need to do is just find the height were your comfortable, then if you want it lower, you can try lowering it progressively as long as you dont sacrifice playabilty. Then do it until you find your spot or, sadly like it was with me, until you just cant play well anymore!

Nature of the beast. The guitar stays more in-place when you’re sitting down. The only real solution, once you’ve found the right strap length for you, is to always practice standing up. I’ve been doing it for 30 years. You can’t ROCK with your HORNS UP in a chair.

Yeah… while it looks cooler to have your guitar slung low like Slash, I unfortunately don’t have long arms like some people do, so I am borderline looking like a nerdy music school graduate when I play! But it isn’t about looking ‘cool’, it’s about being able to play. Even Syn himself said he practices far more standing up than sitting down because if he doesn’t, it screws him up during live shows; so don’t feel alone! Just raise your strap a little more and the more you do it, the more comfortable you’ll get!

And start with the strap up high, like when you’re sitting down – lower it a half inch a week until it look cool.
Because up around your chin is for bass players. You don’t need to go the full Les Paul look, a la Slash or Steve Clark (RIP), but it should at least hide your belt buckle, if possible.

Same has Jen here basically, I hold my guitar relatively high (I think?) and at an angle. To be honest I think it’s kinda stupid to sacrifice playability at the sake of “looking cool”, it’s kinda like people who think they look cool by wearing their pants really low. John Petrucci for example wears his guitar quite high. So I guess you just have to try different heights and angles until you find your sweet spot.
