Since I started college a few weeks ago I have had little to no free time to practice guitar and its really affecting my progress, i am becoming less fluent and im struggling a lot more. Playing guitar is my favourite thing in the world to do and it’s really annoying to not be able to find time to practice, any tips would be greatly appreciated. The last thing I want to do is have to temporarily give it up.

    @dan
How are you doing, man ?
I can relate to that in so many ways…
I have been studying mechanical engeneering for 4 years now, and it has been so hard I’m every way.
But I think that you will get comfortable as soon as you understand how college works. You will know exactly how much you will need to study for certain test or work.
Unfortunately beginning college it is a big change in everyone’s life, but you will soon be comfortable with it.
Also, you can use guitar as a stress reliever you know ?
1- when you are stuck studying for so many hours and you need to do something else just to breath.
2- when you had a really bad day and need to forget everything you just put a backing track on and improvise on your time.
That is how I try to do my best as I struggle with the same issues.
But you will survive, I believe In you !!
If you need something you can message me.
Take care brother! And have a good start at college

Basically what I do is just try to take every 10 minutes or so you have to play guitar. For example if I’m busy before a lecture or when I come home I just play guitar for 10 minutes or so. I’ve been kinda trying to make my last pompe better in that way lately. As far as learning songs goes. You will spend lots of days(each short due to time limits) on a song before you are moderately ok playing it.
Than there’s the point of maintaining skills which can be a big problem. Usually what I do when I have a very little time I don’t learn anything new I just try to maintain the skills I have at that point. So for example you can find an hour in the evening somewhereand play through your favourite songs so you can at least play Whats nescecary to play those songs. For me if I play all the songs I know I would play for 3-4 hours or so. Since I usually don’t have that kind of time to play guitar(especially if you want to do some practice too) I just take like 10-15 songs I really like and play those in an hour or so.
Gabriel-at what level of drunk were you? I kinda destroyed a bunch of mugs so I could have done with a little less beers(also because I’m on a diet and alcohol kinda screws up diets)

See, the thing is, you have to take time out for what you love to do. and that means taking That time out of something you like less or need less. So prioritise what you need to do in proper order and start cutting off time from what ever ends up in the bottom of your priority list.
Example:- when I was doing my masters, the least important thing on my list was watching webseries/youtube daily for too long. I just took 1 hr out from that and gave it to my guitar. You decide what you need to give less time to. Everyone has their own priorities. Good Luck.

@dan darling I can relate 100%. With me being gone for 12 hours a day, 3x a week to help my singer at her school, and then being in real estate studies and then having a job, my time got jacked down to being lucky to get an hour in.
And then I realized something. There were things I was allowing to take up my time. Unfortunately, in this delicate time of schooling, you should really sit down and analyze what needs to be done, and what doesn’t need to be done. See if there are any things in your life you can cut back on. For me, unfortunately, it was cutting back on my time on this school. I also had to severely sever my regimen down. Now i just do the lessons on here for about an hour, and brush up on my originals. Is there a way that you could do the same?
honestly, you don’t really need to practice for 6 hours everyday to improve. Consecutive daily practice with the right regimen will help
