I've been noticing something peculiar about my playing lately.

Just for backstory sake(it makes it easier to understand why I said it’s peculiar)
Basically I’ve been playing since I was 14 years old(I’m 23 years old know) and in my memory one of the things I’ve been told more than anything was always slow down until I was like 20 years old. For a big part I kind of ignored my vibrato and bending in key(I would advice against this). The last 3 years I have been working on it and been able to shred in a more tasty way(if I say so myself) and my vibrato and bending and stuff like that.
Now here’s the peculiar thing lately I haven’t really been super interested in shredding. I still kinda do it when I play along with certain songs but in general when I improvise I barely shred at all even though I’m able to do so(for example you can get a Minor swing backingtrack in a couple of tempos and I prefer to play over the one at 100 BPM instead of the regular 190 BPM) which is kind of new to me. Maybe my taste is just changing. What do you guys think?

I always go in and out of different “phases”! Nothing wrong with whats happening at all! If anything youre just learning and experiencing more/different ways of playing. Yes, shredding is cool and all, BUT having melody, phrasing and FEEL is much more important than always playing fast. Dont worry!! Id much rather hear a blissful slow melodic solo than just another person trying to melt my face (;
Keep up the playing!

I say your finding new tastes that you didn’t know you had and you want to do more of that style and that’s fine do what you are i interested in at the moment for me it’s metal and still is by I recently got into jazz.

That’s very interesting, something similar happened with my music taste. For the last few years I’ve been really digging very, VERY slow building, and rather simple arrangements in music. Also about the same age as you mention, the shift began when I was 20. I’ve always been a melody person, when it comes to my favourite guitar players. To me playing fast is like the dessert after a really good meal, you need the meal first! Lol.
Last couple years I’ve been interested in creating soundscapes and sound textures with the guitar and doing non-traditional things with it. Like the guy on this video, for example.
