Alright everyone I'm going to be level with all of you. We all worked hard to make this rock star student award happen. Some of you donated your hard earned money, and some of you offered your support and feedback. However I'm going to openly admit I'm a little disappointed. I have been dabbling on the forums and on the media section throughout these last several months and I've had a good idea of who might be the winner. And then as of late I have scrolled back for the last month and a 1/2 when I haven't been able to be as active and there was one big criteria for this award that nearly 99% of the students completely missed:
Utilizing the Lessons and showing your improvement using them.

The ratio of just jams and covers out classes lesson content easily 100 to 1.

This was not about to see how many videos you could post up and I made that very clear. It was also not about to see how many times you responded in the forum posts but rather growing and asking for help and using the sources at your fingertips.

I didn't want anybody to show off. I wanted people to show up.

So it comes down to this...you all have 2 weeks left to kick it into high gear. There is a hell of a prize on the line. And I only want it to go to somebody who really wants it and really has worked hard for it has deserved it. I don't care how many etudes you dominate and I don't care how many shrapnel solos you post up. We need to see your growth.

I was blown away initially by the activity, engagement and performances until I remembered the original purpose of this.
So come on ladies and gentlemen… impress me.
You all get two more weeks

Love

Hey Jak! I'm gonna be honest with you. Since this school launched I was active in every aspect of this school. I think it's fair to say that. And although I LOVE the lessons and the information offered, this has been by far the least valuable thing I got from the school. Maybe because I already had the basics under my belt and had to improve on other ends. Maybe I didn't want to get too ahead of myself and mainly used the very first lessons. Either way, I learned an overwhelming amount of stuff from all the members here. It's incredible to see where I was at before the school and where I am now, not because PG made a lesson, but because they created a platform where we can exchange valuable information, feedback and motivate each other. This is where 90% of my improvement comes from. Just wanted to point that out. Totally get that the Rockstar Award is lesson focused, but I think by now the lessons only make up a small percentage of what this school has to offer
Anyway, I hope I can still impress you with two things coming up that I am super proud of!

Idk, I basically did not change my approach compared to before because of the student Rockstar, I basically continued exactly the same way as I always have and there aren't really any gypsy jazz lessons so in the school I've been generally more focussed on answering questions and doing the analysis videos instead of the lessons.

Yes I agree with you. And utilizing what others have taught you was also a part of it. But even then the covers and random jams is far outweighing even that aspect of it. This entire prize was supposed to be based on the concept of growth and utilizing the school. And it's been very difficult for me to find that happening. I also mentioned in the criteria that I wanted to see what people were actually working on and how they were improving. Everyone learns in their own way shape and form. Be it through the lessons or through feedback. But I also wanted the lessons to be incorporated in some way shape or form. There is hundreds of lessons online here. I guarantee one student can get something from even just 1 lesson. Also papa gates and Syn worked really hard to create these lessons for everyone. And I really want to see them getting used.
    Thank you for your feedback.

Also, I'm the one footing the $200 for the lessons. If someone doesn't feel comfortable utilizing the lessons here that are free because they learn more from the community, I don't think having paid lessons would be any different. I don't want all of this to go someone who won't benefit from it.
It can be as easy as picking a lesson and posting what you learned from it. Like a recap of sorts.

Very good point. Everyone who feels jak is talking about them.. dont take it personally. Quite honestly.. my improv jams have taken over.. as well as my live streams on my profile. And although my improvs are utilizing everything g minor I also haven't reached out for something new to slip in there for a while. Mainly have been working on my sweeps there. Another issue is im not so sure what I wanna learn theory wise yet. Other then the 3 1 3 pattern which is more an exercise and not a lesson so to speak.

Maybe I should start using harmonic and melodic minor and whatnot. And the arpeggios for that. I did some of that before.

Hi Jak and the rest of ppl here

Ok, so its ok to post videos of myself struggling with lessons and see my improvement I never post these kind of videos, because that mostly not the videos Im proud of. But I really like that you now ask all of us to show these videos and see the improvement and work we put into this, and that the price is not going to the best player (there are so many good players here , but to someone who is working hard on getting better. I see so many ppl here getting better, making a lot of improvement and that motivates.
I will post more on the stuff im trying to learn with PG videos

    YES!!!

Posting videos of your struggles and practice is the way you can get the most out of this school because it allows us to give you feedback and help you with your struggles

And besides I usually just glance over the videos of all the super shredders with professional production, beginners and people saying the struggle with something are a lot more likely to catch my attention

Good to know Ids, and really appreciated!
I also like seeing other people practising and struggling with stuff, but also like the videos where people play really good, but not the ones with professional production, thats better for youtube to show yourself off

Yes that's exactly right! That's exactly what this award is for. It's called the rock star student award not the rock star shredder or rock star community member award. I want to see you fumbling your way through success. I want to see you try. I want to see you get brave and become confident! Thank you for writing your response. I eagerly await your process!
