Hey everyone! It’s been a while since I’ve done this. And as I’m taking a break from practicing, I thought it’d be great to share with all of you what I noticed. We all agree that gain is our friend. But I remember when Syn issued the “Playing with myself” video you could hear how even his picking attack was against ALL the strings on EVERYTHING.
I noticed that my picking tends to “quiet” down a little on the clean channel in some spots. I couldn’t hear it on the gain, but I could easily hear it on the clean. Then my beloved ostinatos became annoyingly clunky sounding. So here is your challenge for the week!
Lesson 24’s pentatonic pattern. Upload a video of yourself playing the pattern at any speed you’re comfortable with on the CLEAN channel. Let’s hear if you have any clunks or stalls or timing bumps, or if your picking attack softens up or gets dull sounding.
I’ve been spending an HOUR working out the descend on that scale because my fingers get stupid. And it’s helped smooth out my sound a lot
I hope others join in! I’ll upload my video on this forum soon!

Ah yes! Just what I needed! This month has been INSANELY BUSY for me and I haven’t been able to practice, I hate going too long without practicing. But anyway, I’m done with all the stuff that needed to be done and I’m so ready to get back to guitar. This challenge should be perfect to get back into the groove, no pun intended.

@alan I should have stressed, no reverb, chorus or any other type of effects are allowed Sorry should have made that more clear Try it again!
@calvin I chose this specific position because of the funky finger combo on the B and high E string but yes I agree. If there’s a pentatonic scale you struggle with that’s fine too

Hey there Alan! You look like you did it out of a different position. Am I right? You look like you’re starting higher than the 2nd fret. Anyway, great work! Clearly as you noticed you should work on your string muting I feel that that was truly your only issue. Your timing and your clarity of notes seemed really well. And you even acknowledged it yourself on your video description When I did this method it made me realize how weak my fingers actually are

Hey there Calvin! I saw your video and I was curious as to why you chose to down pick the descending part of your scale. You down pick every single note and I think that it’s very limiting on progressing your speed. Other than that your clarity is really good! Especially mad props for the cute cat in the beginning

@marlyn great work! But do it again without Reverb on I had forgotten to make that clear in my original post. This is best done without any effects on the clean channel
@adin Great work! Could you do me one favor though? Could you upload it again but you playing it multiple times repeatedly? The point of this and I feel bad I should have clarified this in my original post, is to see how well the finger combination on the last 2 strings can hold up when repeated multiple times. Great job!
