Basically major works over major or happy chord progressions and minor works over minor or sad chord progressions. As far as all the other theoryx goes it works exactly like the major scale. Each major pentatonic has a relative minor pentatonic. So G major pentatonic is the same as E minor pentatonic. Hope this helps!
Instead of the minor 3rd you have the major 3rd (semi-tone difference for the 3rd note) that’s all.
And it is also useful to know that for exemple the D minor pentatonic is the same as the F major pentatonic, they contain the same notes so they are basically two modes for the same scale.
I hope this is helpful.
Major pentatonic scale is very happy. It consists of the formula; 1 2 3 5 6. You could play this scale for example over a major chord because a major chords fundamental structure is 1 3 5. You could go further and play a major 9th chord because the 2 works as a 9.
Minor pentatonic scale is unhappy. It consists of the formula; 1 b3 4 5 b7, which can be played over a minor chord because a minor chord contains 1 b3 5.
