Okay some of you guys checked out my last advice post about being original and all that. And you guys seemed to like it, so I decided to do this. So the two things I want to talk about are music theory and practice. Okay so let’s talk about music theory
Music theory is one thing that is very important to me I use it a lot now. I know I just had a question about music theory but that’s why really, so the thing I hate seeing are two things either you don’t need music theory or music theory is so boring. I really think that music theory is one of the reasons I’m still interested in guitar, it allows you so much creativity and be more expressive. Sure there will be parts of music theory you won’t need or won’t want to do but just try learning it,
I know for me it’s scales for me scales is the only thing that’s boring about music theory
Anyone that can help me on this please let me know. Anyways music theory is there to help you not harm you I wish I would have learned this a couple years ago, it’s crazy how much I didn’t learn at the beginning. Now I’m just getting into modes it seems so overwhelming to me but I know I can do it. So the second thing I said about music theory that I hate is when people say it takes away from the creativity, anyone that has learned music theory knows this is not true again it’s there to help you. So with music theory take your time to learn one thing at a time it can be overwhelming but I will tell you it takes a lot of time.
So the second thing is I feel a much bigger topic because it really falls into everything you do with the guitar. So practice is a word that I know most of us hate we just want to get it over with. Like I used to be that way but I pondered, hmmm. Maybe I should actually enjoy practiceing because it’s a whole experience on its own.
You have to practice to get good at guitar I know I’m no where near good but if I work on it I will become much better. I’m going to tell you something every beginning guitar player should know. You will be bad at something at first, try to remember something you did and you weren’t good at if you remember you probably had to practice it in order to get better.
Take the time and practice don’t practice one thing for a minute and say we’ll I practiced because that’s not practiceing right, there is wrong practice and right practice. So what I recommend is this practice something for 15 Mins a day at least unless it’s a dream theater song then you want to spend at least a hour because their songs are over 15 mins mostly. I just realized that this joke wasn’t funny, anyways practice the thing you want to learn for a least 15 mins until you get it, it may take a week a month years whatever. As long as you are putting in time you will become better, and if this becomes boring sell your guitar and give up. No just take a break for a few days or practice some thing else that is fun to you. So overall you get what you put into it just keep working hard on it don’t give up please. I look forward to seeing you guys one day making it big or doing what you love. also do you guys like these I enjoy doing them, and does it help you? See ya!
