Well…. what can I say. We didn’t get any spots in the shows that we tried to do. I’m sure back when Avenged Started out they didn’t always get a spot in shows to showcase what they had. right @syn? It sucks. But you know what. I learned something. Not many people appreciate the kind of music that we like anymore. No one really cares how much time and effort you put into putting on a show. I’m sure a lot of you know what I am getting at. But during this time of learning songs and mastering them. The band got closer and we found out more about each other’s taste in music. I learned more techniques on the guitar, and I got a lot of help from all of you here at the school. Especially @jakangelescu and Hector Trejo you both helped me out quite a bit. I Thank you. I guess not getting these shows wasn’t as much a waste of time that we first thought when we found out we weren’t playing in these shows. It hurt a bit a first. And in the time we were learning others songs we got some really good ideas for our own. So I look forward to writing those and getting some feedback from all of you. But to all of those who helped. Thank you all So Much!

Ive played in bands over the years and that happens all the time. Even when we did get shows, some of them we would be playing to only a handful of people, to which only 1 or 2 were listening lol. Just keep applying for shows, writing music and advertising yourself, they will come over time, it’s just all word of mouth.

I think an important lesson to learn is that taking a few steps back is all part of moving forward. What you may do now is use those step backs to look at the bigger picture, so you have a better understanding of how to do better next time. Things that require a lot of time are never a waste of time!

That’s a really mature mind frame to have, Dylan!! I’m happy to see that you’ve found some positivity in all of this. It’s definitely a growing, learning process. And it’s true, not a lot of the common public understands the music we like, but that’s what makes it so motivational. We do it regardless because WE love it, not because it’s trendy or popular. Keep it up, my friend

It’s all about perseverance and determination and hard work. I spent five years, 2-4 gigs a month, playing to virtually no one except other bands on the bill that night and their bored girlfriends. Every now and then you have a show that makes up for it and motivates you, but that’s the original music scene, and it’s ALWAYS been the original music scene until you’re lucky enough to make a dent and start developing a real following. When you do break through, it’s incredible – I’m watching some of I guys I did it with in the 90s finally getting a break now.
In addition to being great musicians writing great songs and putting on a great show night after night, you also have to put hours upon hours every single week into promotion – around town, on the internet, on Facebook – everywhere. It’s different now, in that respect, but the core of it is the same – you’re nowhere with nothing until you’re somewhere with something.
Your chance of anything may be 3%, but if you quit, your chance is 0%. Don’t give up and bust your ass – you’re worth it!
