Jak's challenge
Jak issued a challenge. Here is the thread. Improvs were a thing I have never attempted in my life. I tabbed out my first set of songs on guitar pro. Didn’t even know scales. Just used whatever sounded best to me on the tab sheet that the program played out. A lot of what I wrote I still cant play.. sweeps and whatnot but I rewrote those parts. Anyways, Ids was the one who really initiated the entire thing. And we started with his favourite scale if I am right. I think my improv was like.. just over a minute and a lot of it was repetitive. My latest improv, 20 minutes. And I could probably keep going if I wanted to. Since its been a year, I figured I’d do a quick recap of the year. I also made a play list of every improv in the year I did, including the secret is synyster that some of you may have not seen, but its a GREAT video on how to use minor and major chords together. Here is that link if anyone is interested in listening to them all.
Sometimes I like to sit down and go back and listen to them. Some stuff I cant even remember what I played when I upload, some I remember and use later. Some are repeat melodies, but they lead in different directions. Some neat stuff in there.
Now we get onto the newest video, I uploaded the pics to instagram that I used in the video, theres a lot of planning that went into it. I wanted to implement the penatonic lesson into the video, as thats the next one on my homework list. I wanted to use my G minor scale as well, as thats my best known scale, so I decided to find out which major scale matches that penatonic scale. Using the circle of 5ths map I have from a later lesson well get into, I found its B flat major. So I tabbed out B flat major, which is 100% the same as G minor.. and I confirmed that after tabbing it out on paper. So the penatonic scales I don tneed to go tab out the majors, as obviously using the minor scale it works the same way lol. Anways, I used the rhythm track for the penatonic scale for the most part, and then I soloed over top of it as best I could using the penatonic scale as the base. I then added in a couple arpeggios that I have been trying to work on lately. Some sounded better then others, but honestly? I dont think I’ve ever had them sound this good before at this speed. Progress made.
One last thing, the lead tone changes through out the entire improv. Let me know which ones you love best.
