I just started playing metal and picking fast is really hard for me, especially some in Syn's playing that have chunks of notes. How do I increase my picking speed?
Thanks for all your help
Practice slow.
Practice with metronome.
Control every picking movement (be aware how you pick every note, up stroke or down stroke)
Increase the speed a little by little.
Be consistent.
... and check out Syn Etude's in the School section. : D
What Robert said is very very useful.
You can also practice small group of notes fast and rest between them. For example: pick 4 notes, rest, 4 notes again.
Be as relaxed as possible while practicing.
Have fun with it!
Sound advice from both there.
Papa Gates said it on the last stream. Everyone wants to pick fast and they want it quick.
It doesn't come quick.
It comes with YEARS of practice and patience. Play slow. Slow as you possibly can to get it flawless and clean. And then slowly increase the speed. Patience is key above anything else with guitar.
