Hi guys
yesterday an idea came to my head of a reward system I suppose. I thought maybe we could do say a “student of the week/month” award given to the person who’s participated well in the forum and/or riff section. Im not too sure on how this person will be selected or what the reward could be, whether its a physical reward or a shout out on the school highlighting their great work.
I thought this could be a good idea to try and reward those who work hard on the site, and also try and encourage new people to participate knowing that there is a reward. This will also hopefully expend the amount of people who participate on the forum.
What do you guys think? I’d love to hear if you’d like this or how to expand his idea!
Cheers!

Tbh I have kinda mixed feelings about this. I believe in intrinsic motivation to participate and do stuff (also the reason I hate motivating other people) but on the other hand it seems like there are a lot of people on this school that never reply or upload riffs and I would like to virtually meet then too(figuratively speaking ‘show their face’) so if getting rewards gets those people more active in all up for it!
One thing I would like to see in this would be to have each contribution graded to make sure that it’s about quality and not about quantity.

Hello Ethan! This is actually something that has been done for 2 months. We did it in the month of May and we did it in the month of June. Pablo and Rowan were the respective winners. Pablo won a synyster gates school gift card and Rowan won a sweet water gift card and a synyster Gates school gift card and she still has something coming from me. It definitely does encourage students to try harder. But the situation of it is is that it got difficult to be able to continuously afford this project unless other students chipped in and donated. It did happen with Rowan and it made it significantly easier.
But I agree at the fact that the reward should not be of monetary value. We are not playing guitar to get free stuff. We already have this wonderful free school and all of the sources at our fingertips. I would still like to see more students completing the lessons and taking the school seriously as the school content itself. I have been trying to nudge that from day one.I hardly ever see any conversations about the school lessons or videos pertaining to the school lessons and I hardly ever see growth videos. I do occasionaly and it’s wonderful! But it’s very difficult to gauge someone’s growth if they are not highly active and putting in the work and the continuous effort.
I would invite everyone else to weigh-in on their voices here

Perhaps forum titles? Get your ‘participant’ tag upgraded to something new that reflects your contributions. Upload heaps of riffs, get a ‘riff meister’ tag; help with peoples hardware questions, get a ‘guitar tech’ tag.
Of course this gets a little trickier if someone is all over a lot of these things.
