So one of my biggest challenges in regards to guitar has been scales. I grasped the concept of scales and what they were for, but I never understood how you put scales together or how you knew what scale you were playing. Yesterday while I was watching one of the guitar lessons (I believe it was one of the alternate picking videos) PG said that the scale we would use in the video was the A major scale and that we should already know what it was and it frustrated me that I didn’t have a clue of what that was beforehand. I have no clue where it came from and why it never clicked sooner, but in that moment I remembered PG saying that the major scale pattern was Whole-Whole-Half-Whole-Whole-Whole-Half, so I started on the root note of the low E string and just went up the fret board using that pattern only on the low E and then noticed that they were the same notes on the scale just played on the low E string. I still don’t know why it only just now made sense, but I now feel like I can actually start making progress in learning again now that this is finally not confusing to me anymore.
