It’s actually laurel even though I heard yanny. A video on youtube decoded it as it actually says laurel but the tape is mixed with higher frequencies that tends to make it quite difficult to tell what it’s actually saying. But it totally depends upon your age and listening ability what you hear as people of younger age tend to hear yanny due to their ability to hear higher frequencies but as your age increase the range of frequencies decreases thus older (not that old) people listen laurel which is what it’s actually saying
I’m 17 and I hear yanny

Ed, they do..I did sort of an experiment haha since phone speakers or small speakers in general have more of a high frequency I turned my phone as low as it would go and held it to my ear and actually heard laurel…once. But in the car, with more low frequencies, I still her yanny..or yammy actually. I even slowed down the speed..it’s yammy for me

I definitely have hearing loss, despite always wearing hearing protection at every concert or band practice. The loudest concert I was ever at was Lynch Mob in 1991 or 92. My ears hurt badly WITH earplugs, and my entire body was numb for 2 days. It was about a 2,500 capacity club. I don’t know how anyone survived AT ALL without plugs.
Then, for years, I had a drummer that would mash the shit out of a China Boy cymbal just a few inches from my head (small rehearsal room) whenever I wasn’t watching. That got me too.
ALWAYS wear hearing protection, guys and gals. I can’t stress it enough. Once your hearing is diminished, it will NEVER return.

I hear Yanny most of the time. The sound is actually ‘Laurel’, but depending on how you listen to it (tv vs. headphones vs. speakers etc.) and your ability to hear higher pitches, it can sound like ‘Yanny’. Its pretty neat.
