hi guys i made this post to help people that maybe have the same problem that i had, and it’s discipline, its the most important thing (even than talent in my opinion) cuz you can be a guitar god in progress but if you don’t have discipline while you’re studying guitar you won’t get to anywhere, if you are learning stuff or practicing technicques and studying theory you have to put yourself goals and make a rutine of exercises and musical theory research and don’t break that, you have to dedicate 1 hour or more (that depends of your time and if you’re learning more complex techniques) but no less than one hour, everyday, cuz if you don’t have that determination you will be wasting time and you can’t take it back, i hope this helps someone to not fall in the hole i fell when i was younger, cuz i’ve lost 2 or 3 years in wich i didn’t advanced anything. having an unbreakable rutine in my opinion worths more than natural talent, cuz if you have talent but not the determination to make it grow everyday it won’t grow and you’ll never shine

Lack of such discipline is why I am where I am after 35 years of playing. Sure, I’m really good and seasoned at lots of things on guitar, but some of the more difficult techniques, I’ve been utter crap on for decades.
Found my DISCIPLINE and turning that around lately.
    Good words!

yeah i totally agree with you guys, and its the most common mistake in every people i meet, even myself i’ve meet guitar players that have a lot of talent but they simply don’t study or don’t have a rutine and they are at where they were when i meet them

Everytime you touch a guitar you’re practicing. Even if it’s for 15 minutes for that day. It’s something and will keep you going. I dont ever have a hour every day that i can commit to my guitar. But I do have days where I can spend extended time.

what i mean here calvin its that if you want to be really good you have to put much time on it but if you spent 1 hour playing an 10 practicing technique or exercises for dexterity speed or precision, you wont be really good cuz your technique will be bad, and having a really good technique (that translates into the sound you make through the guitar, not related to amps or effects or guitar, its just what your fingers can do if they are well trained) is essential to people who want to be good players
