The one big question (answer pls)

The community aspect of this site is what makes it stand out from most. It is no secret that the guitar community can be brutal, especially online. This is a safe space to upload your works in progress and ask for help and feedback on your playing. This community has developed a culture of mutual respect and support. Also the fact that it is a free resource makes it possible for many to learn when they might otherwise not be able to afford a guitar course or lessons.

Adding to what Ailée said, as she just nailed it, I would say that I really like the structure of it. Its very well put forward and easy for anyone to not only know in what order to take the lessons but also to keep track of them and of progress. Its no secret that there are tons of lessons and stuff like that on youtube but it can be tedious to look around in different playlists. A big bonus is that the production here is incredible and with the software they use to run the tabs alongside the video, its very easy to loop a section to practice it or zoom on the video to have a better idea of how the finger are positionned. Plus the people behind the scenes are amazing and are always accessible for questions about the website.

Yes this place attracts people because of Syn, but people stay because there is a lot of content to dive into. Adding to that the community and the contests that keeps it active!

Just all around, my favorite place on the internet!

There's literally nothing else that I could add that hasn't been said. The community forums is definitely my favorite part of the site. The lessons are great. Well structured, brief but fairly thorough, and for the early lessons they are in easy to understand/digest terms. But when I can't quite figure out a technique I can almost always find a good answer in the forums that will help break down that wall no matter the size of it big or small. The members here are incredible people that I enjoy conversing with. I've dealt with no bullshit here from elitist snobs/assholes which I can't say the same about a few other forums which I'm sure is due to the admin/mods that have done well at keeping the bullshit out/taking it out when necessary. Like Radu said. Came here for Syn. Stayed because of the community/lessons.

I'm also on Kiko Loureiro's "guitar hacks" website. For one, I find this one to be far more organized. Yes Kiko has amazing lesson content. But this one tracks your progress. Also, Kiko doesn't seem to be too overly active on that site. And I've seen the community aspect get a little uh, nasty and competitive. Here we have several community leaders that are actually active, and even the tech team is very active and prominent and responsive. ALSO, clearly if you have a guitar question, not only is the community ready to HELP, but Papa and Syn themselves chime in pretty regularly. I find the pace of Papa's lessons to be easier to follow. We also are the only school that offers really affordable masterclasses once a month with a renowned shredder. No other guitar school does that. Kiko does it occasionally, but you have to be a member that pays like $100 a month. I just have the free account.

So many students agree, the community is fucking stellar. You also earn trophies for being cool. Which @Dominik Gräber will never earn in his entire life.

Also, we pick on each other like family.

Similar to a lot of students i would imagine, I joined in the beginning mainly because of the idea of it being a guitar school orchestrated by one of my favorite guitarists. I was a member since pretty much day one, although albeit not a very active member haha, and immediately the community of the site is what stood out to me. Youtube was my primary source of guitar education before this site but now I feel like I have a community to come to if i ever have a specific or personal question that Youtube doesn't always provide.

    Well.
    That was weird....

Regarding this site. I would say everything here is more organized and actually more too. I learned more from this site than anywhere else.

Not gonna say anything about the community.

Just on an informative level, this site is superior to soo many other sites.

One quick example. The pentatonic shape. Everyone talks about the first shape...E minor pentatonic...but nobody is talking about CAGED (At least when I started learning).

This site explains the entire system!

....There are a ton of ways to learn guitar but I want to dive deep into one instead of hopping back and forth between 3-4.

I don't believe that depending too much on any one resource is a good approach. Look around and be honest with yourself about what you get out of different sites/instructors.

The course here has better value than any other free place that I know of. Youtube has a lot of info, but there's also infinite distractions and a lot of the teaching is crap.

because this is a big community. like a family. if you have a problem, just ask and people will help you! then, i love how Syn and Papa Gates are also so active here and create interesting discussions every time (also the livestreams and the other things they organise!) then it's special because, you know, this is my favorite guitarist's school and i couldn't ask for anything better. the lessons are very clear and if you need to learn some techniques, everything is there. for example, I'm focusing on sweep picking. and nothing, this school has something special. i’m glad to be part of it.

Before this site, it was a real struggle to gather information, I personally learned things in the wrong order. Had no idea I was missing important things like, learning how to name the notes on guitar and WHY that's important. I've been here less than half a year for sure and feel like I got waaaaaaaay better in a suuppppperrrrr shorrrt amount of time compared to learning whatever in a random order. This site is the first of it's kind being FREE and I'm sure it will one day expand and branch out into other things, possibly Bass and Drums and more!
I've seen people throw curveballs at players of many skill levels, at times seems pretty cutthroat. I think guitarists should have a haven to develop thick skin, the ego gets damaged and people give up. Journey for most is long and tedious. This site is a trove of treasure and possibly a thorn in many other teachers sides. Pretty sure anyone who starts playing through this site will develop very fast.

I didn’t want to join at first because like you said there are many sites and my email adress was already on many spam lists but after a few ads I decided to try it out anyway.
The lessons are nice and easily lined up, and the forum is great. It’s the riff challenges that motivated me and made me stay.

It’s okay to hop between different sites though, I’m sure many people here love justinguitar for example.

I was learning mostly from youtube before, but thats like a bit difficult to keep track and what to learn if youre a beginner, lessons here are really well structured, you can keep track of what you learn, Papa Gates can explain really well too! I still go on youtube when I need! The community here is one of the main reasons to stay around and learn from everyone at the end of the day!
And sure the fact thats Syn Gates school, being him my favourite guitarist brought me here in the first place
