JOIN THE DISCORD VIEW THREADTo be honest this massive lock down happened had a good time for me lol! My car has been in the shop for 3 weeks so I have been kind of on lock down anyway. But even if I wasn't, I live with a senior who has a part of his lung missing because of coming through lung cancer and then Holly has an auto immune condition. When Holly gets sick with the flu she ends up in the hospital and literally bed ridden for almost a month and a 1/2 and it takes her 3 months to recover from it. So I have no interests in being out anyway. Right now I am working on a T-shirt shop and plan on selling T shirts soon. I have had many designs for far too long and I'm going to try another business endeavor. Because of being a real estate agent I used to have to make a lot of Contacts with people but hell no! I'm living off my savings account right now and really focusing on music and my book.
Wishing you the best, Ed.It's been busier than usual for me lately, but not strictly related to Corona.
In February, Lisa and I replaced our cars with newer used cars, and getting some of the niggly bits worked out with them has taken time.
The pump for the pool filter went out, so there goes $1500.
Yesterday the hot water heater went, so there goes another $900.
My 50th birthday is coming up, so I got a new bike two days ago for that (a few months early to hit the right time of the season). Should be able to get in more riding during the outbreak, so that will be good. I haven't been able to ride it yet, which sucks - day I bought it, it rained and then yesterday NO FUCKING HOT WATER, so I'm a bit skunky right now waiting for the plumber to give us hot water today.
I work from home in IT for a financial institution (Wells Fargo), so my job doesn't change AT ALL and it's not at risk. I am very fortunate there.
My wife's schooling is delayed. As many of you know, she just finished her bachelor's degree and was heading to the next step to becoming a doctor. She had one class to backfill requirements (Calculus), and that was going to finish in the second week of May, like two days before her next level of schooling starts. There will now be some kind of overlap and she doesn't know what will happen yet. She's worried. She's also home more than usual and doesn't know what to do, so she's driving me a little crazy.
My daughter (25) got accepted to Pharmacy school, but that doesn't start until fall. Until then, she's at Walgreen's Pharmacy, working her butt off. They're WAY busier right now, and what she does puts us more at risk, but proud of her. She's our toilet paper connection. We're covered.
My son (14) is on his last day of Spring Break from school. He is not going back next week, which makes him happy, but that's tempered by knowing it will have to be made up at some point. He's gaming online with his friends so aside from restricting the occasional physical contact of a nerf war or a game-night sleepover, he's fine.
My older son (23) is, well, somewhere in the middle east, with an M-16 over his shoulder. He sent us a picture of himself getting to know a camel not long ago. His life hasn't changed that we're aware of, but it's now been a week since we've heard from him. Hope we hear soon. We can't send care packages right now, either.
So, once my hot water heater is done in what should be a few hours, I'll go ride my new bike, then come home, shower, and head out in my new car to try and get some groceries - one of the few trips out this week. We'll order take-out from a restaurant tomorrow (Saturday) instead of going out to eat like usual. We want to continue to support local businesses.
My next door neighbors are elderly and a little sick from time to time. I check on them, and leave supplies outside their door when they ask for something.
My parents returned early from Florida to their beach house on the island in New Jersey (it's actually quite nice and not at all like "Jersey Shore"). They expected the usual - a nice, quiet island for the winter. Instead, there are a LOT more people who have summer homes there but decided to go there and isolate from their more crowded usual homes. It makes them uneasy. They are VERY at-risk. I spent an hour on the phone and computer with my mom yesterday helping her order groceries for delivery. They will not be delivered until tomorrow, but they have supplies and won't be hurting.
This was long, but y'all know to expect that from me. Much love, and stay safe. Be smart. CDC and WHO are your best sources of information, action, and precaution.
Be well.
PS: At some point, I will start watching more backlog of TV/movies and do more intensive guitaring. Maybe next week. I have things I'm working on to finally (I hope) sort out some synchronization and cleanliness issues. It's looking good, and I feel encouraged!
Wishing you the best, Ed.
Random question but, where in Jersey is it your parents are from, or are they, I'm just assuming. I only ask because I just found out my Great-Grandad was born in Bayonne!
Cases at my university are going up, we get a lot of international students, but my question is this: why were the airports not shut down. Probably got something to do with money, I just hope that those who have it are ok.
