So long story short, I recently bought Rocksmith 2014 Remastered with the hopes of having some feedback on my playing. I was originally looking for lessons in the area I live in so I can have some feedback on my playing. Turns out I can’t afford lessons. I was looking. Cheapest in the area was $50 per half hour session.
So. After doing some research I heard good things about Rocksmith 2014 Remastered. So I bought it. Been playing it the past 2 weeks almost every day. It’s been helping my playing immensely by helping me get accurate tunings on songs as well as the feedback.
But I was just thinking about it today and was curious about the schools opinion. Do you find programs and games like this more helpful or detrimental?

    1. Anything that keeps you interested and playing, ESPECIALLY in your first year, is a Very Good Thing.
    2. It’s probably not as good as lessons, but I say that as someone who only every briefly had lessons, and not in the beginning.
    3. Supplement with Papa’s lessons when you can to learn the WHY of what you’re doing, too!
Most important thing is to play SOMETHING every single day. Never let a day go by, even if it’s only five or 10 minutes.

The only thing about Rocksmith I am not a huge fan of, particalarly for beginners, is Guitarcade, the games speed up far to quickly to be really useful in building technique. This week, rather than the normal song DLC, they are releasing a beginner technique exercise pack, with intermediate and expert exercises to follow, which is a cool new direction for the game.

I tried it and I am almost certain it was my guitars output but It didn’t register everything, it also told me I was playing the wrong strings when I was playing the correct ones. I feel like it had potential but the flaws stopped me from using it.
It may have changed though so I am unsure as to how good it is now. I had been having regular lessons for around 3 years and practicing for 2-3hrs a day when that happened though so I guess I went in biased to traditional methods.

I try to get an hour of practice in per day. 30 minutes of learning new techniques or improving my weaker ones. 30 minutes of song playing. So far its worked out well combining the schools lessons, youtube lessons, and rocksmith. Ed’s opinion is on point with mine. Combine multiple methods to get the best possible outcome.
But I can definitely vouch for rocksmith for beginners. I wish I had this 8 years ago when I got my first guitar.

    Hello.
Rocksmith 2014 gave me lots of technical skill as a young man. That stuff would have taken me some time to find out about if I hadn’t seen them in game.
I never really memorized full songs playing Rocksmith 2014 unless I wanted to. I think that’s because while playing my eyes are more concentrated on the screen, not on the guitar. That’s fine, learning the whole songs were never my priority.
Latency issues are suprisingly not a thing with the Rocksmith Real Tone Cable, but I don’t like the digital amp stuff, so I use the disconnected mode that lets you just use your own amp. The microphone mode works well also.
In my opinion nothing is better than a guitar teacher, but Rocksmith has been great fun to this day and is just another way to keep you from not getting bored playing the guitar over the years. It’s also a cool thing to stream on Twitch.
    Overall I recommend the game.
And if you ever get bored to the game, you might want to try Rocksmith CustomForge CDLC. I have 450 free custom songs from there.
