I've personally never done this type of fix before, but I have seen others do it. It really isn't as complex as it seems, and using heat to fix warping is an age old strategy. The video and article you have pretty much explains all about how to do it, I remember learning to lay the neck on a rigid piece of wood so that it's straight and to use cloth to prevent damage to the finish and fret-board and that's about it (remember not to overheat the neck). Other than that, the only advice I can give you is to invest in a guitar with a truss rod, even if it's used and cheap. A cheap truss rod is better than no truss rod and it can save you the time of having to do fixes like this. The good part is though, if the neck still isn't straight after the first try, you can always try it again.
