Slow dancing in A burning room improv

There's a John Mayer tone challenge on Instagram and I figured I would participate

Some very pretty melodies you got going on in there! I love the tone. It's soft and sensual. Perfect for this song. My only thing I really noticed is in the beginning you seemed a little overly cautious and it jeopardized your feel. Even though you hit some off notes, you had the confidence to keep going and fix them. Nice vibratos! I think your best section was when you kicked on a little gain. Your confidence came through more. Try playing with that kind of guts on every tone setting. I love how you incorporated the melody too. Beautiful!

In the last minute when you started on the outro, it sounded hesitant. Like there were smalls gaps in the notes that weren't intentional. But overall it sounded really fucking good man, I love that tone you have

Thank you

I don't think it has so much to do with the gain, more with the difference between pick and fingers 😅

Thank you!

I really just messed up a little and had to grab my pick 😅

Gotta hate when that happens! I played for a few minutes in front of some guys from work today and felt clumsy as hell. Messed up on things I've been practicing a lot, lost grip of the pick, misplaced fingers, etc. It's all about getting the practice brother 😂

I was actually playing with my fingers up until 3m30s. It was a pretty conscious choice to not use a pick. It can add a lot of Dynamics. I maybe shouldn't have done during halve time of a game with my TV on though 😅 distractions and stuff

Really love how you worked your way around the melodies and kept the feel intact. The section after the 4:00 mark was my favorite; really intensified the whole vibe \m/

Thank you! I did play a bit more aggressively after the 4:00 minute mark.
