Really bad practice video but I think I’m learning something valuable ? Thoughts ?

I recently started to try “one” by Metallica. I’m sure I’m not the only one whom when practicing I mess up and I just start all over. I decided to practice with the recording so I wouldn’t start over and have to fumble my way through. Idk if this is a good idea but for me I felt it made me really think about the song and the rhythm and know where to come back in after I messed up time and time again. So many perfect videos are posted, I wanted to showcase a not so perfect one. One of someone really trying to feel their way through. I got frustrated, but with the song playing and hearing the lead guitar I felt the need to jump back on even if it was shit and only for a second. I felt the need to keep going !

There is so much I love about this video. First and foremost I want to tell you that even though you messed up, you knew you had to jump back in. That's exactly what you need to practice when performing live. When you perform live or even when you record in the studio, you will mess up and you have to keep going. You have to learn to find your spot and jump back in at the right time and girl you totally did just that! That's a professional attitude and total professional mind frame right there! Also You caught the strings during the walk up which is what they do. It's the equivalent of a cymbal catch for a drummer and I'm very proud that you noticed that and did it! 95% of the crowd won't notice a mess up if you smoothly jump back in. I look forward to your progress on this!!

The back piece of the guitar strap floating behind your back triggers me.

Besides that good job! That's not bad practice, that's just how it sounds when you haven't practiced it to perfection. And actually just like it sounded when I tried that riff 😂

Lol yeah I don’t like this strap either for that reason, plus it’s kind of uncomfortable lol. I was too lazy to swap it out for the one I usually use lol

I like videos where it doesnt all go smooth, because we all struggle. I love this song, its the one that I want to be able to play fully, that was my goal when i bought a guitar.

What i did in this part of the song when practising. I use ultimate guitar tabs (or songsterr), loop a part of the song, and practise that untill I get it right and then I add a little piece of song to it, like i think i did the first 4 bars untill they were good and then added a part. With those websites you can also slow it down, I always start slow, where im comfortable and speed it up when ist good.

Good luck practising this song, there are many variations in it, thats why i like it. Me btw struggled with the part that starts after where you stopped, but its so satisfying when you get it finally right,

You’re getting it! Something I try to think of that’s simple is—not skipping a beat regardless of missing a correct note—at least in practice sessions during those first few months of learning. Obviously you don’t want to be hitting wrong notes that sound bad a majority of the time, but I’ve experienced that a sour note every minute (in practice, not performance) if you stay in time Is better than having to mentally reset and start over The process of the riff in your head. When you have to mentally reset because you forgot a note it’s like throwing away a 90% good cake because one slice got ruined. Just roll with the timing and be aware of your imperfections rather than trying to fix them right away. Even just that itself is mentally liberating to not have to always have your mind on the next note you are going to play. Once you can get through the riff or phrase and loop it(play it back to back) , you can focus on which note is tripping you up and work on it in time with the track. Don’t let the leads get in your way! They only sound good with the rhythm behind that you are adding. Consistency is key

good for you, girl!!
Love it because we're all learning and messing up all the time. Showing your mistakes is a good thing while learning, if you show it perfectly played after 2.000.000 takes you can't get any help, but this is exactly what a learning process is about: messing up and going back again trying your best to improve.
My teacher always encouraged me to try to play the full song, to the end, using a backing track. Otherwise you get stuck in a chunk, get frustrated all the time and never make any progress.

So, I just got to the part you mentioned. It’s aggravating lol. I’ve got it, but have to really think about it. Who knew such a small little change in the pattern could make it piss you off so much 🤣
