Untitled new Riff

@Jak Angelescu @Ed Seith I remembered it!

I was jamming and trying to fit the Chords of my F major progression in different styles. Came up with this riff. It's not my original progression but I am still using most of my chords in there. Especially focused on the Dm and Gm triad. I know @Alicia Willis really likes that minor sound :P
I have a question for you guys, especially @Jak Angelescu @Ed Seith and @Ids Schiere
I started the blues lessons but had not a lot time to actually play around them yet, but I keep thinking about Motif and how to write one. Would you guys say my riff here has a Motif already? I mean I would consider that first riff pretty melodic and the melody changes in the course of the riff evolving.
YES. Every time you readdress your riff you play it different.

My ground rule for anything I consider a melody/motif myself is simply, can you sing it?

Even though this riff sounds absolutely killer! I don't think I'll be able to sing it so not really. It has a motif to a degree but it's not really a melodic motif if you know what I mean.

Think of it like this, would a vocalist do it? Secondly, think about how many badass cool riffs are really singable(most aren't but that doesn't mean it's bad)

Jak raises a good point. I would consider this a riff based motif over a melody. Which is where motifs come from.

Gotcha! And thank you!
I think this might be singable to a certain extend, but I get what you're saying. Might also be because I can't sing or hum melodies well at all 😂

If you want to add a motif.. I guess you could readdress the riff in the chorus. Maybe bring it up a few octaves on the high e string and see what you can think of. I think you could really make it pop out more then it already is that way. Then explode back into the riff like you do.

I was thinking about adding a Higher guitar melody in the Chorus anyway, great Idea!

That has been my goal recently. How can I carry the melody or riff through the entire song without making it boring. How can I change it up and come back to that same melody? How can I play it and how can I sing it? Can I move it around to add feel later in a solo? You can move it to the high e and add arpeggios to make it a duel of you wanted.. many ideas there. The base is huge I'll tell you that. I'm really happy to see what you have come up with. You're writing is much better then you think it is.
