The red button is a kill-switch, so when you press it down, no sound will come out of the guitar. Works great for effects. Buckethead uses it alot. I use the Chris Broderick Pick Clip, which is a device that allows you to turn any pick you want, into a thumb pick. I dont play without it. It allows you to go from tapping, to picking, without worrying about the pick getting in the way.
